I am zigging, zagging, and ...erm...

My Self-Summary

I'm a Londoner, born and bred. I both love and hate London at different times.

I have done a fair bit of travelling; I am looking at possibly heading back to Australia/New Zealand in the future, but that's just an idea at the moment.

I consider myself to be passionate, sensitive but not overly-so (well, alright...sometimes...), caring, and a great listener (I have two ears..).

I love having in-depth conversations about absolutely anything.

I love to laugh. And anyone I'm with needs to be able to make me laugh.

I love music, movies, playing the guitar, writing (terrible but fun attempts at songs, and slightly better attempts at screenplays), and spending the day in bed watching a classic film after a good night out.

What I’m doing with my life

I have a day job as a trainer; it's not the most exciting thing in the world, but it's totally stress-free and I do enjoy training people. I consider my real work to be what I do outside of that, which is filmmaking. I am pretty much crazy about it, and I write/direct/edit/shoot a range of things - I have made three music videos for a fantastic up-and-coming band called The Joy Formidable, who are very good friends of mine. Please look up 'the joy formidable' on you tube and take a look at the three official videos (for Austere, Cradle, and Whirring).

I also make videos for a children's charity (for free, of course!) and am in the middle of planning a couple of short films which will be entered into various festivals.

I also love playing the guitar. I've been playing for many years, but never considered it as a career thing. Well, I was in a terrible band whilst at school, and I think for about five minutes we considered going for it. But we sucked. And I discovered film.

I’m really good at

Laughing. Particularly at myself (*at*, not with).

Filmmaking!

Playing the guitar.

Listening.

Locking myself away into the early hours of the morning, meticulously tinkering away as I edit something that I have shot.

Getting wound up when I see advertising with incorrect punctuation.

Hugging.

Sleeping.

The first things people usually notice about me

Well, the beard. It's a love it or hate it thing with most people.

And I've been told that my wonderful blue eyes are somewhat captivating. Which is nice.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books - Dracula, 1984, Pillars of The Earth, World Without End, His Dark Materials trilogy, American Psycho. I also read a lot of non-fiction; I've just finished reading a book about 1950's America, which was really great. No, it really was!

Movies - ok, off the top of my head: The Big Lebowski, The Thin Red Line, Memento, The Prestige, La Haine, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, The Return, The Station Agent, Blade Runner, Out Of Sight, Jaws, Back To The Future trilogy, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, It's A Wonderful Life, Twelve Monkeys, Fight Club, Alien, The Lord Of The Rings, Napoleon Dynamite, Grosse Pointe Blank, Boogie Nights, Heat, The Departed, Good Will Hunting, The New World, Rabbit Proof Fence, Man Bites Dog, Amelie, Sneakers, High Fidelity, Quest For Fire, Monty Python's Life Of Brian. And many more...

I have to add some tv shows here, too - Six Feet Under (I am certain that I will never see anything that is as amazing as this show), The Sopranos, The West Wing, Flight Of The Conchords, Spaced, Black Books.

Music - Wilco, Crowded House, Weezer, Foo Fighters, Nick Drake, Guillemots, Radiohead, Blur, Pavement, Massive Attack, Chicane, The Joy Formidable, The Shins, Pulp.

Food - pretty much anything, except liver. Actually, anything offal-related is pretty much a no-no. My favourite kind of food...probably Thai. And sunday roasts, although I don't get to my parents' in Devon often enough to have one cooked by my mum!

The six things I could never do without

My guitar.
A video camera.
Notepads and pens.
My eyes.
My friends/family.
My Maori greenstone pendant.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Life and death and all that.
And about the house I'll one day build. Near mountains. And a lake.

On a typical Friday night I am

Thinking 'what can I do to make this an atypical Friday night?'.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'll have to have a think about this.

You should message me if

You think 'hmm, he seems pretty cool/charming/weirdly fascinating'.
