I am adventurous, artistic, and awkward.
My Self-Summary
I'm finding this incredibly awkward, but that's kind of the way I
roll, so I'll give it a shot. I'm quite focused on school and work,
especially now that I'm student teaching (though penniless). I
really enjoy working with students of all ages and getting to know
them and watching their personalities develop. Outside of teaching,
I try to stay involved in art, but I also often find myself
watching TV shows on DVD and knitting or ironing clothes or some
other horribly domestic form of self-occupying household tasks. I
swear I'm not a shut-in...
What I’m doing with my life
I just finished my art degree and I'm student teaching in an
elementary school and junior high to gain certification in K-12 art
education. My emphasis is in ceramics, but I also enjoy photography
and drawing and painting. I'm giving myself some time after I
graduate to catch my breath and figure some things out. I'm
interested in traveling and organic farming or maybe grad
school...? Too far in the future to really gauge anything for
certain.
I’m really good at
using my hands, making messes and then cleaning them up
(figuratively and literally), cooking, meticulously organizing my
calendar, finding myself in awkward situations
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm Asian-American (Korean); more American than Asian. My theory is
that I'm a Korean Poser, i.e. a "Ko-Po." I love to laugh and joke
and play. I can be cynical and sarcastic, though I'm genuinely
honest if/when I need to be. Initially I'm a nervous wreck, but I
eventually become more of a giant mess.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I like reading classical and contemporary literature like Hermann
Hesse and Haruki Murakami as well as some fantasy, like Redwall and
Chronicles of Narnia, though not so much sci-fi.
I like all sorts of films, especially drama, independent, and
foreign films. Sometimes a more simple, poetic film or book can be
more thought-provoking than overtly decorated ones.
Music can be anywhere from indie rock to classical symphony to
electronic/ambient to the pop hits that I pretend to be above
listening to but secretly enjoy as much as everyone else. Some
artists I've been listening to are The National, Arcade Fire,
Regina Spektor, and Owl City.
I love all kinds of food. My roommate is vegan and I'm omnivorous,
but I enjoy cooking with her and all sorts of different kinds of
dishes. I like Thai and Indian food especially, and Korean food of
course. Then again, sometimes the situation calls more
appropriately for beer and pizza or burgers and fries.
The six things I could never do without
a journal/sketchbook, some form of music (iPod/radio), coffee/tea,
the New York Times' crossword, clay, and trees.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Irony.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I do enjoy a bowl of Maruchan Ramen from time to time.
