My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Alright, here we go: My name's Dan. I'm a bay area native, and I love it. I lived in upstate New York for 5 years. I moved back 3 years ago and I still miss having winter. I do physics and software in a tiny family business and it's great. I enjoy the outdoors and in particular, camping, climbing and hiking, and star-gazing. I've gone camping in Yosemite at least once per year since I was too young to remember.

I'd consider myself an optimist, and I keep things upbeat. I can be serious if the situation calls for it, but I like to be light-hearted in general. When I don't know what to say, I get really badly punny. It's a personal failing of mine.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm currently working in my family's tiny software business, selling extremely niche software to huge semiconductor companies. I'm planning on taking over leadership in the next few years, and who knows where I'll go from there.

What I really love about work is the opportunity to make a difference for other people. I love making peoples' days and having them win. I'm also pretty involved with a personal development group called Landmark. Working with them gives me a huge opportunity to make a difference in peoples' lives. I love it.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
- juggling
- hiking
- singing with the radio
- road-tripping
- amusing myself
- amusing others
- picking up new skills
- staying up too late
- doing the cooking by the book
- writing incomplete lists
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm not really sure, but the term "chill" seems to pop up a lot.

Also, yes I have a beard and I'm pretty hairy in general.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

None of these lists are complete or in any particular order, but they should give you a sense of my tastes.

a sadly short list.. I haven't done much reading lately
Kurt Vonnegut, Stephen Donaldson, Brian Greene, Stephen Hawking

Mel Brooks films, Kung Fu movies (Ong Bak, Kung Fu Hustle, Legend of the Drunken Master, etc.), Batman Begins (best of the 3 new films imo), Half Baked, Snatch, Singin' in the Rain (yeah, I know), Fight Club, Kick-Ass, Serenity, Airplane!, Star Trek (the new ones), Primer, most Pixar movies

Futurama, Rick and Morty, Bojack Horseman, anything with David Attenborough, Top Gear (the British one), Battlestar Galactica, Mythbusters, anything with Alton Brown, Archer, The Venture Bros., Breaking Bad, Star Trek TNG

Explosions in the Sky, They Might Be Giants, Third Eye Blind, Pendulum, Muse, Eels, The Seatbelts, Brian Eno, Aphex Twin, Incubus (their older stuff), Interpol, Yes, RJD2, Justice, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Sigur Ros, Cake, The Glitch Mob, Anamanaguchi, Air, The Cars, M83, Death Cab for Cutie, The Dandy Warhols

Variety is the spice of life! I love trying new foods, and I rarely find something I don't like. I particularly enjoy burritos, sushi, NY style pizza, gyros, In-N-Out, and Korean BBQ although I haven't actually found a good place around here for that yet...

Video games:
the Half-Life universe, the Borderlands universe, Rock Band, Super Smash Bros, indie games, Diablo, Mario Kart, and many others that I can't remember
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1) my chain-mail juggling balls
2) good food and good beer (that totally counts as one)
3) music
4) stimulating conversation
5) hiking in the mountains
6) my car :)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
- why reality tv is so successful
- how the climate crisis and overpopulation will be handled
- the nature of reality, and its relationship to spirituality and science
- how awesome my next ski trip or camping trip will be
- how to overcome laziness and procrastination
- etymology
- random physics questions (like "If the earth spontaneously disappeared, what would the moon's orbit around the sun look like?" or "would waterfalls look much different if it was oil instead of water?" or "how would lava behave if it had really low surface tension?")

Yeah, my mind tends to wander a bit...
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
probably playing computer games, sadly. I might also be shooting pool at the bar with friends, going out to a movie, playing ping pong, or gaming with friends. I'm always down for adventures when adventure calls, though. Always.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm kind of addicted to the internet...
