My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I’m a comedy writer — at the moment, I write for “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.” I’m really fortunate to have a career I love.

As a kid, sometimes I was really outgoing and other times I'd sneak off to a pillow fort to write stories. Things haven't changed too much, though these days my sneakers don't light up. (As often.)

I play the piano and it keeps me sane. I wish people still wrote letters. I like to explore and learn and be challenged and think hard about the world and my place in it. But let's not kid ourselves, I also like making up nonsense words and I was once emotionally moved by "Katy Perry: Part of Me" on a plane.

Here’s a sentence from an essay by Tim Kreider that I once read and took to heart: "Maybe we mistakenly think we want “happiness,” which we tend to picture in very vague, soft-focus terms, when what we really crave is the harder-edged intensity of experience.” I'd like to be the interesting grandpa one day, with the weird stories. Take that, imaginary future other-grandpa.

Basically I hate playing games when it comes to romance, but I love playing games when it comes to Boggle.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Currently turning horrific social and political issues into jokes that come out of a charming British man’s mouth. I’m ambitious and passionate about my career. Writing and performing share a collaborative spirit and sense of discovery that I love.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
This doodle I've been drawing for as long as I can remember of a cat that's in the mafia. (Mafia Cat. He's got a cigar.)
Mixing cereals. If there are two cereals around, hold onto your butt because I am going to mix those cereals.

Recently, lots of short fiction - Tobias Wolff, Raymond Carver, George Saunders. 100 Years of Solitude is an all-time favorite. Really loved A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again. Thinking of picking up Cat’s Cradle next.

Six Feet Under holds a special place in my heart. Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Girls, The Wire, Veep, True Detective, Fargo, Parks & Rec, New Girl, Freaks & Geeks. The Grand Budapest Hotel was my favorite movie this past year. Grosse Point Blank, Broadcast News, Airplane!, Dr. Strangelove; most everything by Pixar, Charlie Kaufman, P.T. Anderson, Tarantino, the Coen brothers.

Recently in my headphones: Future Islands, St. Vincent, The New Pornographers, Spoon, First Aid Kit, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., The Black Keys, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, St. Lucia, Fiona Apple, Purity Ring. I kind of want to go to France to see this crazy electro-swing band: http://bit.ly/MeKNw

I exclusively eat Choco-Tacos.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My keyboard (the piano kind), a notepad, fleece blankets, crisp autumn days, cats that head-butt you, long genuine talks with good friends.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The incessant itch to create, and how I can best learn to let it drive me, but not drive me crazy. Also Peter Gallagher's eyebrows.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
When I was 12 years old, I had cybersex with a girl on this new thing called America Online, and I wrote in my journal about it that night. The first line was "Yo! I just had so much fun in cyberspace you would flip out!" Later in the entry, I made a point to note that "she was really nice and independent. She seemed bright, too."

...you'd like to, of course. I tend to gravitate towards people who are sincere, creative, curious, self-reflective, and kind, with a mischievous streak. An appreciation for Trader Joe's Cookie Butter wouldn't hurt.
