I'm flexible and introspective. I adore good food, and have wicked wanderlust. I have a thing for opera, and another thing for baseball. I have yet to figure out what I want to do when I grow up, but that doesn't seem imminent. My favorite sport is Calvinball.
What I’m doing with my life
Enjoying it! I travel to call contra and English dances, occasionally putter with plants, and dabble in obscure English folk traditions. I live in a place I love, have wonderful friends inconveniently scattered around the planet, and am fortunate to have work I care about.
I'm neither as outgoing nor oppressively cheerful as this sounds.
I’m really good at
avoiding the question.
OK, OK, I'm really good at being at home wherever I am, rolling with the punches, public speaking, chaos, lists, English grammar, getting dirty, absurdity.
The first things people usually notice about me
The wild hair? The oddball humor? The skeptically raised eyebrow? The antennae?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
If Dick Francis or Jane Austen wrote it, I've read it. Strong preference for fiction and travelogues because I love stories. In a two-year period I checked out 111 books from the public library, and, other than the Senegalese cookbook, read them all cover to cover.
I rarely see movies, but can quote large chunks of "The Princess Bride," "Field of Dreams", and "Star Wars." Nothing against movies, it just never occurs to me to see one.
Live music is a significant part of my life. A week without live music is freakishly rare.
The six things I could never do without
Friends, imagination, passport, dance, quiet, and silliness. Seven:
good grammar. The things without which I could never do.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the musical selection currently playing in my head.
On a typical Friday night I am
calling a dance somewhere in North America.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I still like to hide under the covers and read well past my bedtime.
