So I have no idea what to write here, but some of the things I like include nature, books, and learning things. I would describe myself as, and hope to be worthy of the descriptor, a feminist.
I've lived in Boston for almost eight years and I have continued to know absolutely nothing about sports. Seriously, there are mainstream sports that I'm foggy on the rules of. I get the impression that points, goals, and baskets are frequently involved.
What I’m doing with my life
I work as an accountant for a software company in Boston. It's a job, it pays the bills, and I'm good at it.
Random factoid: I have an aquarium! I have lots of fish and live plants now. I'm very excited about this. I know, weird right?
I’m really good at
-Making grilled cheeses
-Learning new things
-Keeping plants alive
The first things people usually notice about me
My dashing beard.
I actually have no idea.
Possibly the fact that I've just located and picked up whatever wildlife was in the general area and brought it over to show people. This is especially amusing on beaches when my friends are setting up the blanket and umbrella or whatever, and I've scampered off to the rocks to find sea creatures. "Look!" I'll say, holding out a crab/starfish/shrimp. "Ah, could you help us with..." they'll say, as I run back and look for more cool things.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: So many authors... Neal Stephenson, Vladimir Nabokov, Michael Chabon, Dave Eggers, Jasper Fforde, Margaret Atwood, Neil Gaiman, M. T. Anderson, Tana French... And shelves and shelves more.
I recently got an e-reader. Yes I was skeptical too, but it's pretty great carrying around 900 page novels in my pocket.
Movies: Anything and everything by Pixar, Lord of the Rings, Unbreakable, Gattaca, Stranger Than Fiction, Never Let Me Go (I thought they adapted the book amazingly well).
TV: Game of Thrones, Parks and Rec, Party Down, Arrested Development, How I Met Your Mother, Community, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Arrow (yes, shush, it's so good).
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I'm going to do with my weekend (people who are able to plan this kind of thing far in advance fascinate me), and whether it will involve seeing my nephew, who is 3ish years old. How I can convince more people to play board games with me, even super nerdy ones that involve space conquest.
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't have a typical friday night. Sometimes I'm in playing games
with friends (board games or video games, it varies), sometimes I'm
chilling with a book, sometimes I'm out at the movies or a bar...
Sometimes I'm just unwinding from a long week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I used to be part of a Von Trapp style family singing group. No I
am not kidding.
