kaleidoscopic, kind, and ever-young
My self-summary Propose an edit
Long long time ago in a distant northern country a child was born
in a small town surrounded by lakes and forests. *pressing
fast-forward, skipping the childhood, nerdy and lonely teenage
years etc.* Now the child grown is living in the Netherlands
for a while (it's been quite a learning experience!). It's not too
bad here, although from time to time I miss the real nature and the
real winter (especially the dry, crunching sounds of snow under
your feet when it's really cold).
I yearn for social contact and can be chatty, witty and talkative,
but also tend to in some situations turn introvert, quiet and
reserved [update: nowadays less and less so!]. I have learned to
enjoy city life and feed on the energy of strangers around me, but
quiet moments alone in nature are still essential. I'm perceived as
male, but don't (luckily!) feel like a real man. I can bottom,
but I can also (to my own amazement) top. I work on the framework
of Western science, but believe we have so much to learn from other
cultures. (And I believe trees can give you energy, but am not sure
if hugging them helps.)
I consider myself very open-minded and tolerant, but I don't like
people thinking and acting in black and white (and it doesn't have
to be grey between black and white, but multi-coloured!).
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
Time traveling at steady pace. Walking a path unilluminated. Always
expanding my limits. (And currently wading through a PhD program in
botany and
seriously pondering whether I'm on the right track at all, but that
doesn't sound so mysterious, or does it?)
My main free-time activities at the moment: meeting friends,
enjoying culture (especially music!), going out for dancing, resting to recover from
all-the-work-and-no-play, sport climbing, relaxing in sauna.
Things I enjoy and want to do more: traveling, being in nature, working with people,
photography
and finding peace of
mind.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
My tall and slim body and my long hair (sometimes hidden in a bun).
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
With culture I'm adventurous and like to explore new, weird things.
Generally I prefer small, intimate events to huge
mega-happenings.
(Books) Not reading as much as earlier... Herman Hesse, John Irving, Neil Gaiman, Mika Waltari etc. (and I used
to be a big time scifi and fantasy fan, and still enjoy these
genres from time to time). I intend to read Joyce's Ulysses before I die!
(Movies) Wide range. I can enjoy mainstream(ish) American movies
(from Incredibles to Sideways and films by Coen brothers and Tarantino), but love to
visit movie festivals and see all kind of obscure shit from all
around the world.
(Music) From Chopin, Debussy and Shostakovich to Tori Amos, Moloko and Nine Inch Nails, for example.
Many kinds of electronic beats, preferably
played by anonymous DJ in a club with ample room for body to
move.
(Food) Currently eating mostly vegetarian (and fish). Can't choose
favorite cuisine, there's too much good stuff out there. Spicy Asian yummy. Willing to try almost
everything once (except monkey brains). Don't like Dutch cuisine,
though!
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Now let me see *thinking really hard*
-fluff in belly button (actually I collect it for a friend)
-good old Golgi apparatus (who could do without that, huh?)
-soft and furry Viking helmets (for gentle Vikings)
-sounds and noises, natural and unnatural, perhaps arranged into rhythmic and/or harmonic patterns.
-(most of) my inner organs
-people ready to beat me and be beaten with birch twigs in hot steamy room.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
A way to stop thinking about things too much.
My work (wouldn't want to, but those bastards control my mind with microwaves!).
How deeply the binary gender system is embedded in our society.
Dirty things (like sewers and rotting fish).
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I'm keeping a box (well, relatively small box) full of my body
hair. Not sure why, maybe I'll donate it to science one day.
