This kind of statement has surely been published a lot  by different users, but here´s my version:

After 3 days of membership to this site it´s time to express the first impressions, it´s time because i´m impatient and get the point of most things quickly. A dating site was new to me. Everything  I knew were social networking sites like Facebook or myspace, where the importance is attached to collect innumerous quantities of so called friends to share your daily bullshit with. I still have my profiles there, but I got tired of receiving and sending virtual kisses, flowers, wishes etc. all around the world while there were not the slightest connection with my real personal life. Of course some of the friends I knew personally and that is and was different. But with them I prefer e-mail exchange, not just to drop a short and dumb message visible to everybody. Ok., but that´s not the point. What is different here? First of all it´s about dating, that means that everything you do, all your profile effort  is meant to end up in a personal encounter. Yes, there is the option long distance pen pal friend too, but that´s not what the people are really here for. The thing is mainly about relations, sex and insane hopes. All I can report about is the experience of a man looking for a woman. I´ve read a lot of female profiles and was deeply impressed, there are  a lot of well educated, pretty, intelligent and funny women,  sometimes more, sometimes less, but the average rate is fairly high. After finishing my profile with some, yes, I confess, disandvantageous photos (unfortunately  I´m the one who always take photos of others) i´ve started “fishing”. I felt quite motivated, the expecatation of a possible future love relation or just sex faded away and was replaced by a sort of fascination and curiosity. I wanted to know more about all these women, talk to them, ask them all kind of stuff, make jokes, well…just communicate like in normal life, where I have no problems with that. I am not shy and people normally like to talk to me, even too much, sometimes I have to run away from them, men and women. But here is everything different. All these wonderful women are besieged from hundreds and thousands of men of all types who want all the same: picking someone up. I know what i´m talking about. When I made my profile I accidentally defined my gender as female. Well, even with my horrible photo of a man with a slightly visible mustache I received 1 IM within 2 minutes and my profile was visited by  4 horny males. Imagine the women, and more the pretty ones. No wonder they have to protect themselves. This happens by ignoring incoming messages and blocking  IM foncionality. In real life they can´t  adamantly refuse someone this way because the guy could be a dangerous psycho, so they talk something to get rid of him. I´m not complaining, just analyzing. I´ve written a lot of mail messages during the weekend and received a few answers, almost all by brazilian women, who are always flattered when you talk nice to them.  Nevertheless the answers are brief, sometimes only a “thank you”, but it´s ok.  The most beautiful mail reply came from a nice and smart woman from Rio de Janeiro who shares my love for movies. Another positive example is a remarkable woman from Israel, a kind and intelligent human beeing. Most women do not answer, they don´t waste their time talking to somebody who doesn´t live in their area and doesn´t correspond to what their dreaming of. They are not here to talk about art, literature, movies etc., but to resolve their problems. So, that´s what i´ve learned here: . Don´t waste your time writing tons of messages. Make a good looking profile with essential informations (for the Americans mention your income) and let the women find you, otherwise all these “Fuck offs” make you feel like a shitty worm begging for attention. Nobody deserves that.  In portuguese there is a nice expression for what I am not going to do:  “Puxar o saco de alguem”. It´s something like kissing the ass of someone…hmm… wait a minute, bad example.  Finally, Okcupid is a very userfriendly and well conceived site with a lot of possibilities, but don´t expect too much.
