My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Thanks for checking out my profile!

I'm originally from Miami, Florida but moved to Chicago after grad school. So far so great. I love this city! I love the people in it and I love the varied demographics. There's a board game culture!

I'm pretty active physically and like to stay in shape. Getting out as often as possible even during the cold months is really important to me. But I'll be honest, staying in and curling up to a good book, movie, or TV show is just heaven for me.

I'm a social justice advocate that uses education as a weapon to combat racial and socioeconomic inequality.

My education is important to me but does not define my intellectual pursuits (it would be a pleasure to discuss this!). I'm torn many a days between all types of special interests and social interaction. Guess life just swallows me whole!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Learning, learning, learning, and stopping to notice the fireflies! Note: ask me the background to that last bit.

Teaching young folk to empower themselves through said learning!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Looking on the bright side and seeing the funny in most situations.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my ridiculous, cartoonish smile. People usually comment on how I look like an animated super-hero!
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: A Confederacy of Dunces, World War Z, Box Office Poison, A Song of Ice and Fire saga, The Things They Carried, Ready Player One, A Clockwork Orange, The Princess Bride, pretty much anything Star Wars, High Fidelity

Movies: Apocalypse Now, A Clockwork Orange, Aliens, What We Do in the Shadows, Star Wars, Serenity, Rushmore, Return to Me, Grosse Point Blank, any Coen Bros film, Tombstone, Escape from New York, Clue, and especially The Princess Bride

TV Shows: Strangers With Candy, Mr. Show, Firefly, The Wire (best written show in history), Arrested Development, The Walking Dead, GoT, Veep, Silicon Valley, Powers, pretty much anything on HBO, and I liked Lost after watching it later than most.

Music: The Smiths, New Order & Joy Division (if you don't know why I listed those together we have some important things to discuss), Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Ella Fitzgerald, Psychodelic Furs, Sam Cooke, Little Richard, and Futurecop!

Food: Lemme just preface this by saying Chicago is a great town for a foodie like me! Ok, I enjoy Italian, Chinese, and Japanese (sushi) the most but find myself experiencing new ethnic foods very often these days.

It's tough to pin down all my tastes in pop culture but this is a start. The fun part is exploring all the unlisted faves!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. My books (hard to choose just one)
2. Board games (and ditto)
3. My shower and toothbrush
4. A TV
5. My familia & friends
6. Online access
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The future (workin really hard to live in the present as well!)

How I want to dance more often.

Other perspectives because we often forget about everyone else.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Watching a movie after a great dinner, dancing to some interesting old-timey music, hanging with friends at my place talking and wine & whiskey drinking the night away, and or relaxing on my comfy couch with a good book after a long week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm getting to be a nearly obsessive clean freak which is ironic because I work with young people. (Update: getting better about this recently!)
