My self-summary
Grad student/server who loves working at the pub and doesn't-so-much-love working on the dissertation just now.

I'm a passionate person with a love for debate and intellectual engagement but have a pretty silly sense of humour and love to just kid around too.
What I’m doing with my life
Enjoying it, first and foremost. I have some big dreams, and a lot of passion, and am working on how to put it all together once I'm finally done with school sometime in the next year or so.

Current dreams include:
-Travel (perhaps live/volunteer/work abroad for a bit when I'm done school)
-Open/work in an alternative school
-Make writing a part of my daily life and find a way to share it with others
I’m really good at
Being a sister (I'm the middle of five) which means, I think, that I'm pretty good at listening, sharing/negotiating, standing up for myself, caring for others and being there when I'm needed.

I'm also really good at collecting books (minor addiction to fiction), being happy whilst playing my guitar (can't vouch for the happiness of the listeners ;), making a good strong cup of tea.
The first things people usually notice about me
After the nose ring?... I guess one thing that becomes apparent pretty quickly is that I'm my own person. I have my own beliefs about a lot of issues and am happy to talk about them but I also recognize that these are my beliefs and not the be-all-end-all truth of the world.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
First of all, I suck at favourites - too many to choose between and it really depends on my mood at the time. I do think, however, that while these kinds of lists are a relatively random part of these profiles, what people choose to highlight and present about themselves can offer some interesting insight so here are some long-time favs of mine, interpret as you will.

Books: The Road, Jane Eyre, On the Road, The Trial, Book of Longing, Coraline, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Time Traveler's Wife, Crime and Punishment, The Dead Zone, The Little Prince, Sandman...

Movies: Harold and Maude, Harvey, Anatomy of a Murder (anything with Jim Stewart in it), Cool Hand Luke, The Sting (also pretty much anything with Newman in it), Time Bandits (and most of Gilliam's other stuff too), Across the Universe, Hard Day's Night, Tin Drum, Psycho (the original), The Great Escape, 28 Days Later, Rachel Getting Married, Being John Malcovich...

Music: The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Death Cab for Cutie, Amanda Palmer (and her bands), The Chieftains, Sigur Ros, Chopin, The Cure, Tori Amos, Belle and Sebastian, Stars, Sarah Harmer, Leonard Cohen, Tegan and Sara...

Food: ... Wait, what does my preference for foods say about me?... *shrugs*: tea over coffee, red wine and whiskey over beer, salty over sweet, a little heat is okay, lots of veggies please, some meat and just about anything with seafood is fine by me.
The six things I could never do without
Books. Well, to be more accurate, stories are the part I'd hate to live without but I also dig the actual aesthetics of books - the look, the feel, the smell etc..

Music. I wouldn't call myself a huge music person (I don't know much about it and tend to listen to my same favourites a lot) but after going without it for a semi-extended period whilst on a backcountry camping trip I was surprised to find how much I missed it, and therefore realized how important it is to my daily life, so it's on the list.

Friends and family. I have a large extended family made up of both blood relatives and friends and I can't imagine life without them all in it in some way or another.

Creating things. I knit, sew, draw, paint, take pictures, craft and make stuff in all kinds of ways and while I don't have as much time for all this as I'd like it's a pretty important part of my life.

Art. Whether it's mine or someone else's creation, it means a lot to me to have art in my life and to live without art of any kind would be a lesser life (and apparently I can't do without a little bit of pretension either).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
A lot of things, I'm a big thinker. Some might say I over think things but I'm pretty much okay with it.

School, work, roller derby, politics, social injustice, happiness, life, what I want out of my life, what I want to eat for lunch, if I want another cup of tea...
On a typical Friday night I am
Working at the pub and having a great time! LOL, if not working, I might be anywhere: chilling with friends playing a board game, kicking it up on the dance floor, smashing my friends around at roller derby practice or just enjoying some quiet me-time with my guitar and a glass of wine at home.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
That I hate this question? I know that's a cop-out but I really don't know what to put here. I'm generally a very open person so the things that I would consider private are very private, everything else is fair game so... yeah... that's my answer, I guess?... blarg.
