I am clever, inquisitive, and thoughtful.

My Self-Summary

I am a very mellow person. I like to take life easy and not spend too much time worrying or taking anything too seriously. However this does not mean I am complacent, life should always be kept interesting, boredom is my enemy.

It is important to me to always be learning, exploring and experiencing new things. There are too many interesting things in this world to not see as much of it as I can. I have more interests than I can list, but no obsessions. I hope someday to find a great answer to one of life's mysteries, and share it with the world.

I love finding local events to attend including nerdy conventions, quirky theater productions, interesting concerts, art shows, cultural festivals (I tried haggis for the first time at one this year, it's surprisingly good!), renaissance festivals, community education classes and anything else that sounds like fun.

What I’m doing with my life

I am discovering that it is entirely possible to be successful in life without ever having decided what you want to be when you grow up. Through a mixture of luck, hard work, curiosity, and friendship, I have landed a dream job as a partner in a small technology company. I spend my off time pursuing any one of many hobbies and daydreaming about the future.

In my spare time, I love to read, mostly science fiction and fantasy and watch movies -- my favorite genres include adventure, sci-fi, action, and comedy. I enjoy getting together with my friends and playing board games and video games, disc golf, mini golf, or croquet. I think Pocky is over-rated, but still enjoy anime and the culture surrounding it's fandom anyway. When not doing any of that, I am often cooking up wild ideas for projects to work on.

I’m really good at

Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies, and I am generally excellent at it. Though sometimes when I get a bit too experimental I have been known to concoct some truly bad, almost Lovecraftian-horrible, creations. Hot Tip: Cream cheese and sour kraut do not mix.

Understanding technology of all kinds has always been second nature to me, as well as math and physics -- aptitudes which landed me a solid career. Unfortunately these same areas frustrate me to no end.

I am also especially handy at fixing things, whether it be plumbing, a sick plant, or an argument between friends.

The first things people usually notice about me

My quiet nature, which is occasionally interpreted as disinterest or dislike, though really I just enjoy listening and watching to learn as much as I can.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I'm going to be lazy here and just list some of my current favorites, these lists are by no means comprehensive.

Authors: J.K. Rowling, Chuck Palahniuk, Terry Pratchet, Willam Gibson, Douglas Adams, Neil Stephenson, Robert Heinlein, Richard K Morgan, Philip K Dick, Ayn Rand, Neil Gaiman, Stephen R. Donaldson, Kurt Vonnegut

Movies: Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Fight Club, Goonies, Ghostbusters, Adaptation, Kung Fu Hustle, Labyrinth, Beetelgeuse, Braveheart, Matrix Trilogy, Anything Monty Python, Old Boy, Save the Green Planet, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Never Ending Story, Princess Bride, X-Men, Willow, Hackers

Music: Very Eclectic -- Jethro Tull, Cake, Rasputina, Lemon Jelly, Tricky, Atmosphere, Massive Attack, MC Frontalot, They Might be Giants, Gravity Kills, Bob Dylan, Electric Six, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, The White Stripes, The Police, The Pillows, Led Zepplin, The Beatles (not so much the early stuff)

Food: Sushi, Thai, Barbecue, Cajun, Vietnamese, Greasy Spoon Diner food, Italian, French, just about anything prepared well. I would have loved to be a taster on Iron Chef.

The six things I could never do without

Friends, Family, the Internet, Technology, Freedom, Mystery

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Whether the Technological Singularity is really inevitable, and if it will happen in my lifetime.

What would someone from 200 years ago think about today's society?

Where did I leave my keys?
