First off: I am not really seeking a relationship right now, but I would love to meet new friends! So, if you would like to chat or yell or yodel or whatever at me, feel free, I'll be glad to write back!

That said, back to the previously scheduled profile:

I am mellow, caring, inquisitive and independent. I love exploring all that life has to offer, trying new things, seeing new places and trying out new ideas.

I try hard to foster a child-like sense of wonder about the world. Many people lose that. There are so many amazing things to see and do in this life, and I want to experience as much of it as I can. I have a fear (hopefully irrational) that someday I will become complacent and boring, and settle into a routine that saps the "interesting" out of my life.

I am an agnostic atheist but not militant about it, and do not try to sway others from their beliefs. I love to explore ideas in religion as they relate to culture and history.

I am politically independent but lean liberal, especially on social issues. I tend to avoid politics on the whole, especially since I believe cultural change is much more important.

I spend much of my free time with friends and colleagues, and often enjoy a relaxing night of good conversation. I love the outdoors, camping, fishing, playing frisbee golf, walking through the woods, or practicing photography. I also love the indoors, movies, reading, and exploring the internet. Travel is also a passion, especially road trips and unplanned exploration of new places.

I love cultures and society, and especially love fringe cultures. It is fascinating to me how with the advent of the internet, people with whatever obscure interest, desire or belief can find others and form a community. There are thousands of micro-cultures made possible by the internet, and I love spending time learning about them, especially the "weird" ones.

I recently made the decision to have a go at following my dreams and doing what I want with my life. So far, it is going well!

I work with software, mostly consulting with a long-term permanent part time position that provides a layer of stability and benefits over the typical consulting roller-coaster ride.

I also have small shop in my garage where I build things to express a more creative side and balance out the cerebral work of software development.

I love to cook, though lately have not been practicing as much as I would like. As with most things in my life, I love to experiment and try new things. Some ideas work, some are amazing, and some are hideously awful in an almost Lovecraft-ian sense. Pro tip: never combine sauerkraut and cream cheese.

I am great at learning new things which matches well with my never-ending curiosity.

I have always had a bond with technology, and started programming when I was very young. I've always loved logic puzzles, and programming is like getting to solve puzzles all day and be paid for it!

My quiet nature. I am an introvert and though I love crowds and meeting people, I can be a bit of a wallflower.

For books, movies and TV, I enjoy documentaries, adventure, speculative sci-fi, and anything related to travel and culture.

For food, I love everything interesting. Small diners and hole-in-the-walls with simple but amazing food, black tie dinners with elegant and artful presentation, unusual and culturally varied cuisines from every continent but Antarctica, and especially small locally owned places where the owners are passionate about what they do. I love the refinement and perfection of French and Japanese cuisine. I love the warmth of a good vietnamese pho or the homeyness of long smoked barbeque. I feel comfortable with either grits or Foie Gras. Food has long been a passion of mine that I picked up from my father who had a culinary streak.

Musically, I am eclectic and have enjoyed everything from metal to rap to classical spanish guitar. Mostly though, I listen to indie rock, folksy stuff, poetic hip-hop and atmospheric electronica. If I am on a long drive alone, I prefer audio books.

Assuming the basic needs are met:

The internet. A sense of wonder and curiosity. Challenging projects to work on. Interesting people to talk to. New things to learn. Maybe you?

Whether the Technological Singularity is really inevitable or even possible, and if it will happen in my lifetime. What new things will be revealed/discovered/invented in the next few years. What's for dinner?

Typically I am at home watching a movie, reading, or working in the shop. I am not really a go out on friday-night kind of guy.

I do however try to make it to First Fridays when I can, it is cool to see such a live and thriving art scene in Kansas City.

I'm Bi. Really! I have had relationships with both men and women, of varied ages and sizes. To me, I am more interested in who someone is than what they are physically.

Also, though I try hard to be an honest person, but I am often more closed and private than I would like. However, if you ask me a question I will always answer as truthfully as I can.
