Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
So a year ago, I left inner-Sydney and the advertising scene, and
moved to quieter Newcastle where I manage the international
marketing and communications for the university (but I still spend
lots of time in Sydney). I'm enjoying not feeling like I have to
dress up to buy a carton of milk, I've stopped being a gym bunny,
and I very much like being connected to nature (I live a few blocks
from the ocean and love it). I do miss things being open at night,
and the twinkle of the lights, and the feeling of humanity swirling
around me. But over all, it was a good idea. I've just signed
another 12 month contract, so... here I stay for now.
I'm also very active in creative projects outside of my main work.
At the end of the day, I'm a writer. I also make music. And I've
been lucky enough to be able to do these professionally; but
neither are they confined to my job.
Having said that, I'm in a period where I also give a lot to my
career, and enjoy giving it. Actually, I'm a bit of a workaholic.
But I clash with people who hang their entire identity upon their
business card, and I don't judge others by their jobs or salaries.
I know a lot of successful people who are really quite painful, and
I know a lot of waiters who are beautiful souls.
