My self-summary
I'm a routinely sarcastic, frequently self-deprecating, wanna-be badass. Currently most of my energy is going towards finishing up my current Masters program, managing the craziness of my internship, and working off the sedentary lifestyle from the last degree. I'm set to graduate in June from this program, but I'm staying on for a PhD.

I'm into nearly all things music, playing pool, working out (so I tell myself) and spending quality time with my puppy (who is actually 6). I like to sing really loudly in my car, and see if I can get people stopped at traffic lights to sing along if I'm singing something they might know. You would be surprised how often it works. I like messaging random people through the site if I'm bored and can't sleep. I don't actually dislike cats, I'm severely allergic, so if you have them, I'm allergic to you too. Nothing personal.

As for the person I'm looking for, I'm pretty obsessive about education (possibly because I've spent 22 years of my life in school and don't know much else), so if you haven't finished college, the odds are against you. I've been told this sounds completely judgmental, but I figure we all set our cutoffs somewhere, and for me, they're mostly centered on education, so it's better to be upfront. I hate internet speak with a fiery passion, nothing causes quite as visceral a reaction as use of the term "lol." I can tell from the number of people who use it when they write me that they stopped reading my profile several paragraphs back.
What I’m doing with my life
I am a grad student. It takes up loads of time and is ridiculously stressful. And I seem to love it.
I’m really good at
Saying tactless things. I have been working on it for years, but there are still some pretty bad days.
The first things people usually notice about me
The saying tactless things tends to attract a good amount of attention. Beyond that, probably the sarcasm. People seem to notice/like my hair, but the time in grad school is inversely related to how much of it I can retain, so I wouldn't count on it sticking around.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books - To Kill A Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, The Namesake, A Thousand Splendid Suns, The Help, any of the Harry Potters, anything by Maya Angelou, and really obnoxious romance novels I read when I need something mindless. Which is pretty much daily.

Movies - Rent, Shawshank Redemption, Hot Fuzz, Remember the Titans, Bend It Like Beckham, Shaun of the Dead, Hunger Games, The Avengers and (most of) the related movies, How to Train Your Dragon... I really love kids' movies, action and comedy, but I'll watch nearly anything, except for horror.

Television - Scrubs, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Family Guy, Downton Abbey, Modern Family, 30 Rock, Mad Men, How I Met Your Mother.

Music - Linkin Park, Sarah McLachlan, Adele, Paramour, Muse, The Beatles, The Eagles, Green Day, NIN, Jem. When I am stressed or studying, I listen to classical or random Native American flute music I find on YouTube. My taste in music is pretty strange, I'll listen to anything twice.

Food - Tandoori chicken and sushi. And dim sum. That's pretty much all I need to exist. And wine, does wine count? I've discovered over the course of the past few years that I really enjoy cooking, but I tend to get bored cooking for just me, so I often eat fairly uninspired things unless I find people I can feed.
The six things I could never do without
My sister - My friends - My dog - Books - Music - Internet (particularly the really terrible recesses of the internet, like lamebook.com)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Counseling. Split ends. The fact that I will be pushing 40 by the time I get licensed. World peace.
On a typical Friday night I am
Grabbing a tasty beverage with friends or watching a movie at home with the pup. More likely the latter, since I work a lot and tend to find myself wiped out by Friday. Saturdays are more my thing. I really like low-key, I prefer hanging out in actual homes, or bars where you can hear people talk.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I love to sing, and I really hope I one day end up with someone musically inclined. Someone else who can sing would be that much more awesome. But given that this is one of those things I consider near and dear, I think I've just given the universe a pass to send me the most tone-deaf person ever.
I’m looking for
  • Straight guys only
  • Ages 31–39
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
you want to. Just realize there is a distinct possibility that I won't respond if there are major grammatical errors, or aforementioned internet speak. So unless you're referencing ancient cities in Mesopotamia, I'm going to ignore any email that uses "ur." Please don't think this is a challenge for you to send me an email with intentionally bad grammar; you are not the first to do so, it is not as funny as you think it is, and I will still ignore it. I know it sounds bitchy, but it's just one of my things, so I kind of don't care.

Also, as you can see, I am long-winded, so I tend to take a while writing my emails; if you're going to get irritated that I didn't respond within 24 hours, then you probably shouldn't email me to begin with. My schedule is pretty hectic right now, so it may take several days for me to find time to write a decent response.
