pensive, inventive, and reclusive
My self-summary Propose an edit
I've had a lifelong passion for science, but I have a much more than
passing interest in creative media. I'm interested in anything with
a story to tell, from books to video games to the universe itself. I'm a natural
recluse, and have a hard time making the first move in social
situations; more so in person than online. I spend a lot of time
thinking, and I pride myself on the ability to come up with good
ideas, but on the other hand I suspect I don't spend enough time
actually doing things. I probably ought to have a "more athletic"
award here, seeing as I work out seven days a week (nerds can be in
shape too.) I'm a big fan of the fantasy genre, and hope to pen a book or
two of my own someday. I don't really foresee myself dating anyone
on this site, but I wouldn't completely rule it out. Mostly I'm
looking for friends.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I'm a college
student, majoring in environmental science. At the rate I'm
going, I'll probably pick up a philosophy degree as well. Beyond
college, I don't
really know. Professionally, I'd like to pursue a scientific
career, but there's a lot of creative work I want to do on the
side.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Creative expression, theoretical science, fencing, singing,
whistling, throwing together a really clever Halloween costume out
of whatever happens to be lying around.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
It depends a lot on the situation. In an ordinary social situation,
if people notice me at all, they notice that I'm an introvert. I
don't open up easily. In an academic situation on the other hand,
like in a classroom, I always have something to say. I alternate
between being making enlightening and helpful contributions and
completely derailing productive conversations. When I'm forced into
close social situations with people (roommates, for example) the
first thing they notice is that I tend to be socially awkward. The
second is that I am highly intellectual (I feel pretentious
describing myself as such, but that's the impression people tell me
I give.) Somewhere well down the line is the fact that I have a
keenly developed sense of humor. I never reveal that side to a lot
of people, but to those with whom I do, it's an integral part of my
personality.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books:George R. R. Martin's
"Song of Ice and Fire" series, Phillip Pullman's "His Dark
Materials" trilogy, Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Galaxy" series, Dianna Wynne Jones' "The
Dark Lord of Derkholm," much of Terry Pratchett's "Discworld"
series, and various works of Neil Gaiman
I also read a hell of a lot of webcomics.
Movies: Not nearly as much that's made an impression on me, but I'm
a fan of Hayao Miyazaki's works.
Music: Not rap, jazz, or R&B, but practically everything else.
I have a soft spot for humorous or ironic music.
Food: Sushi, and anything really, really spicy.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
I always need a few close friends to confide in. I'm trying to
phase out the meat in my diet, but I doubt I can ever fully let go
of seafood. I have to be able to spend some time alone with my
thoughts. Books. Can't forget books. The internet. I don't know how
we ever got along without it. A place where I feel at home.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
Science, philosophy, the future, what makes people tick, stories of
every kind.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Probably alone, reading.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I was willing to work as an artists' model (nude) as a part time
job at college. Turns out they only accept people from outside the
school, to avoid awkwardness.
Also, not as private, but more amusing, I've been stalked by a girl
over my resemblance to Harry Potter.
