My self-summary
I'm a farm-boy from central Kansas who left the country to pursue a scholarly life. I'm sensitive and caring, adventurous and passionate, generous and trusting. While naturally introverted (INTP), I'm ebullient once you get to know me. I over-think things way too often (this profile for one).

I'm a fairly quiet person and not at all prone to anger, though I am somewhat easily frustrated. I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve. I love the beach and sunshine is one of my favorite things. I'm sure there's loads more I could say, but I wouldn't want to reveal everything at once. For more info, check the personality tab. I'd say it's pretty accurate.
What I’m doing with my life
Mid-way through year two of a PhD in Sociology at Brown. I'm apparently writing my master's thesis and continuing research on small organic farmers in Brazil's Atlantic Rainforest during the breaks. I.e. eating some of the world's best chocolate, and yes, I'll share.

In my free time, or what remains of it anyways, I like to cook, read, and do other things. Exercise needs to be one of them.
I’m really good at
Cooking, writing, dancing (well, trying to), navigating, giving massages, and making coffee.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes and smile/lips. A slight flair for the dramatic.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
These are all woefully incomplete and represent what I've read/watched/see/listened to/eaten around the time of editing my profile as well as all-time favorites. I'm sure I'm forgetting some greats, though.

Books: 1984; Brave New World; Broke, USA; The Wal-Mart Effect; The Limits of Power: The End of American Exceptionalism; Flowers for Algernon; To Kill a Mockingbird; The Grapes of Wrath; The Sorrows of Young Werther; The Picture of Dorian Grey, Canticle for Liebowitz, The Communist Manifesto , Taking the Risk Out of Democracy, Freefall, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Twilight of the Idols, Searching for Respect: Selling Crack in El Barrio, The Ecological Rift (Capitalism's War on the Earth); The Metamorphosis; Expensive People; The Gay Science (honestly everything Nietzsche); Christopher Moore's books; Feed; Cryptonomicon & Anathem; Ursula LeGuin's oeuvre. Dataclysm is interesting. Developing a taste for Murakami.

Movies: I love documentaries (Food, Inc. Supersize Me, Fahrenheit 9/11), foreign films ( Two Days in Paris, The Counterfeiters, M, The Edukators; The Lives of Others) and all of Quentin Tarantino's films. And yes, I thought The Hateful Eight was excellent. Gravity; Hobbit(the first one)/LOTR; Requiem for a Dream; All things Miyazaki (they're the only films that make me weepy); Whiplash; Interstellar (Yes, I know the science was crap; no, I don't care.); The Talented Mr. Ripley; Good Will Hunting; The Usual Suspects; Harakiri (possibly the most well-executed film I've ever seen), Mad Max: Fury Road (the quintessence of action movies);

Music: (incomplete) Queen, Beethoven, Bach (I love the organ), Blue Scholars, Mahler, Alt-J, Daft Punk 80's-90's hip-hop, Neil Young, Head and the Heart, basically anything but contemporary country western (think Garth Books & Toby Keith), rap about bitches/hoes/money, and anything that screams at me.

Shows: Invader Zim, Adventure Time, Firefly, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Curb Your Enthusiasm, House MD, Louie, Bored to Death, Arrested Development, Futurama, Fullmetal Alchemist, Attack on Titan, Psycho-Pass, Black Mirror, RICK AND MORTY, Monster, HunterXHunter,

Food: I love food. I don't love grapefruit and olives.
The six things I could never do without
My laptop
Wholesome food
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where society is going.
The environment (physical and mental).
What I'm going to eat next. Seriously, I love food.
On a typical Friday night I am
watching Netflix, maybe hanging out with friends. I don't go out much. I'm always open to adventures, though, and I enjoy being spontaneous. During school, almost certainly reading.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I drink at least 2.5 liters of water a day.
You should message me if're down-to-earth and secure with who you are..

You're not a huge drinker; I rarely drink and obnoxiously drunk people are just not my thing.

You have a healthy skepticism of capitalism.
