I am in love with music, self-assured, and open minded.

My Self-Summary

Hey! My name is Scottie (legally, even). Born in California (and hope to make it back out that way sometime), but raised from one year old in a small town in Indiana. As you may have noticed, most of my pictures are me smiling like a fool/singing like a fool/acting a fool in some way, shape or form. Basically I try to enjoy every moment and really enjoy just being myself. Some of the things that make me tick are: my love of music, as it makes my world go 'round; my love for the, and need to be outdoors; getting quality time with my close friends. I enjoy poker, video games, and deep discussions to fill some of my spare time, as well. I've been told I'm a social butterfly, and it may be true, as I love meeting new people, and can get along with just about anyone. I consider myself pretty genuine and nice, but I'm also a smart-ass and can be a real fucker sometimes...basically I just love to have fun, live in the moment, and be as random as I want.

My path has been through many different walks of life, and I think it's given me a good ability to look at life through lots of different perspectives. Oh, and on that note, as for the religion... "other," for me, means spiritual. I definitely don't subscribe to any one religion, but I lean towards the eastern religions, especially Buddhism. The open mindedness, and ability for each person to follow their own path to enlightenment, plus the acceptance of nature and spirituality going hand in hand is great. I'm very open minded when it comes to spirituality, and don't look down upon anyone for their religious choices, nor will I choose not to speak to someone based on their choices, so long as they respect me for mine.

I wouldn't mind meeting someone that’s fun to tag along with and have fun, dance the night away, or go on pointless cruises under a night sky listening to music that seems perfect for the mood. I always enjoy meeting truly awesome people who love life and the ups and downs associated with it. You've gotta go with the flow, or you'll just get swept away by it.

A favorite quote that does a good job of describing how I feel about life:

"Humor is the only test of gravity, and gravity of humor; for a subject which will not bear raillery is suspicious, and a jest which will not bear serious examination is false wit."
- Aristotle

What I’m doing with my life

Currently working on finishing up my bachelor's in Natural Resources Environmental Management. I love the outdoors, and am passionate about nature and wildlife; ideally, I'll be working outdoors, studying animals in their natural habitats. I've grown up around animals, and feel compelled to do my part to help wildlife in general, because we only get one chance at this thing called Earth, and wildlife is so much more important to its existence than we sometimes give it credit for.

Also, a large part of my life is spent growing my music tastes/collection. I also love dancing to good live music. I’m always trying to meet new cool people that just "get" life.

I’m really good at

Making people laugh. I have a messed up sense of humor, but I consider it pretty good in general. I can find the humor in just about anything. I'm pretty sarcastic. I can entertain myself in almost any situation, and see the positive in life, even the rough spots. Even though I've got my cynicism, for sure, I'm generally an optimistic person.

I’m good at being there for/listening to my friends.

Interacting with people, and generally getting along with them. I'm also a bit of a nerd, and love brain teasers, and games which require thought (sudoku, crossword, scrabble, trivial pursuit, etc.). If you're ever looking to get beat in chess, too, let me know!

The first things people usually notice about me

My personality(I guess that they notice I'm very outgoing, in general: I'm a people person fo' sho').
My hair, when it's long(which it has been lately), also, I have slight, but noticeable natural silver "highlights" almost, against my otherwise dark, jet black hair.
My infectious energy, and joy for life...general goofiness.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I listed only a few books and movies, because I was listing so much music--Don't let this fool you. Aside from music, books are one of my favorite things. I'm definitely a bookworm. And I love movies, and have seen a ton, but I'd rather have a good book any day. Oh, and as far as books and movies especially, if they make you think (especially lots of the comedy movies), I'm much more apt to like them.

Books-- anything George Carlin... I think he was one of the wisest philosophers of our time; 2001: a space odyssey(and the other 3 in the series); George Orwell; a lot of Stephen king, especially the Dark Tower series; anything by Hunter S Thompson; Kurt Vonnegut; Jack Kerouac; Chuck Palahniuk; Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind;

Movies--Fear and loathing in Las Vegas(pretty much any Terry Gilliam movie:12 Monkeys, Brazil, Monty Python); Boondock Saints; Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels; Crash; Team America: World police(pretty much any Trey Parker/Matt Stone work); Mel Brooks movies; Being John Malkovich; Any Darren Arrenofsky, I've seen them all but The Wrestler, and love every one; David lynch films.

Music-- Ah music. So much music, so little time. I love stuff you can dance to, nothing beats getting down to a funky beat. I also have a very eclectic taste in music. Some favs:
Sublime; NOFX; TOOL; Bad Religion; OutKast; Radiohead; Morcheeba; Lovage; Portishead; Explosions in the Sky; Thrice; My Morning Jacket; Jamiroquai; Muse; Jimi Hendrix; The Doors; Del Tha Funkee Homosapien/Deltron 3030; Refused; Pretty Lights; The Clash; the Grateful Dead(who I can actually say I've seen live, WHILE jerry was alive); pink floyd; Portugal. The Man; Rancid; Jeff Buckley; A Tribe Called Quest; Glitch Mob; Sick of it All; Sound Tribe Sector 9; Soundsytem 2020; Flight of the Concords; Future Rock; Digable Planets; Buckethead; The White Stripes; Sigur Ros; Primus, or pretty much any les claypool project; Operation Ivy; John Coltrane; The Slackers; MF DOOM; Reel Big Fish; The Disco Biscuits; Red Hot Chili Peppers; Eric Clapton; Soul Coughing; Ween; Dethklok; Frank Zappa; Galactic; Blackalicious; Bob Marley; Jimmy Smith; Desmond Dekker; Killswitch Engage; Air(french band); Nine Inch Nails; Crystal method; Massive Attack; Hepcat; i could go on and on.

The six things I could never do without

1. Music (gets me through each and every day--nothing can lift your spirits or set the right mood like the right song)
2. Books (I absolutely LOVE to read, and have since I was about 4)
3. Friends (to remind me of all that is awesome in life)
4. Time spent outdoors (because after music, nature is my secondary sanctuary)
5. Deep Conversations/Debates(how else are we supposed to form ideas, if not to discuss, and acknowledge, other peoples' points of view?)
6. Tea (because it’s oh-so-delicious...really any tea will do, but I'm particularly partial to greens and whites)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The deeper stuff in life. Existence and spirituality: you know, the big questions. "Why are we here?"; "What is my purpose?". The often blurred line between "right" and "wrong", and how everything is relative. The way we, as a human population in general, interact with one another, as well as our environments. Politics, and again the blurred lines between "liberal" and "conservative," and how that, too, is all relative. Philosophy(I suppose this kind of falls in with all the previous topics, but I feel it deserves its own space). And how yet, despite all of these deep, very important(and sometimes depressing) things, how life is still so fun, and full of wonder.

"I think I should have no other mortal wants, if I could always have plenty of music. It seems to infuse strength into my limbs and ideas into my brain. Life seems to go on without effort, when I am filled with music." --George Eliot

What I need to do to get out there and make a difference in the world. My need to travel, and experience new things, and where life's crazy ride may take me next.

On a typical Friday night I am

Depends. I could be: working(I deliver, so, weekends=good bucks); living it up(a bar, concert, party with friends, etc.); or just enjoying some time with close friends; occasionally even just reading. I'm an introvert at times, and an extrovert at others. I can enjoy a night in with a movie, book, or video game(oldschool NES and SNES own, but I like a little bit of every generation), just as much as a night on the town. Some of my favorite activities in my free time include: frisbee, bike rides, basketball, hikes, camping, drinks, dancing, exploring the arts, taking photos of anything that catches my attention.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I secretly die a little bit inside every time I have to watch one of those "Progressive Lady" commercials for Progressive Insurance. Same for those MOTHER EFFING free credit report dot com bastards. I wish they would get into a death match with the progressive lady, because there is no way that doesn't end in a positive scenario. Also, I'm probably that guy that you and your friends laugh at at the stop light, because I'm SERIOUSLY getting into my music haha. Music just does that to me!

You should message me if

If you're real/honest; you love life; enjoy deep, meaningful discussions; just want to chat, joke around(I'm very sarcastic and have a pretty unique sense of humor); or talk about music, movies, books, or art. Oh, and please, no close minded people.

If you think you know a book/movie/band/tv show/artist I would like; or, maybe you even think I could introduce some new ones to you.
