My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am curious about the world, have a thirst for knowledge, and read about a wide variety of subjects. I am a voracious reader. I value education and intelligence highly and hope to be seen as well rounded and erudite.

I am a lover of companion animals. I love dogs and they love me too! Cats also love me! They come to cuddle with me while I am reading or watching television. My sister has called me "The Cat Whisperer." I am descended from a long-line of animal lovers and my sister is a small animal veterinarian. I understand the bond. I believe that companion animals are a necessary requirement for my happiness. As a child, I lived on a dairy farm and gained experience, and appreciation for, large animals. I currently have two American Toy Terriers.

I am Half-Dutch and believe that I think more like a European than an American. I certainly don't have an isolationist or an "America First!" attitude. I believe that I am global-thinking and believe that what we do has consequences for people who live in other nations.

I am an omnivore, but I believe that it is important to buy organically-produced dairy products, eggs, meat, and produce.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I currently work at establishing a family-owned veterinary clinic.

Previous jobs that I have held included telephone software support engineer, technical writer, sales and use tax specialist, and order administrator.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Western Washington University and a Certificate in Technical Writing and Editing from the University of Washington.

Please note that I am looking to relocate to the Seattle/Eastside area.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Quoting appropriate movie dialogue in life situations.

Researching information.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I presume that it is the cleft in my chin. Does it not remind you of Cary Grant or Kirk Douglas?

People also seem to be surprised by my age and say that I look much younger than I am.

Some people claim that I look like prolific horror novelist Stephen King, but I don't see the resemblance.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I am a reader of history (especially naval, aviation, and space exploration history), historical fiction, alternate history, science fiction, fantasy, horror, manga, and erotica. I especially like the Saxon Tales and the Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, and the writings of David Sedaris, Robert Conroy, William Gibson, and Douglas Adams.

I have eclectic musical tastes representing the spectrum of musical genres. From country, rock, gypsy swing, jazz, blues, classical and baroque, heavy metal, symphonic metal, black metal, industrial, techno, surf, rockabilly, reggae, ska, to motion picture scores. Favorite musical acts and composers include: Alice Cooper, Asp, Apocalyptica, Bach, Billie Holiday, Bob Marley, Blur, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Cole Porter, Daft Punk, Deathstars, Diana Krall, Duke Ellington, Eisbrecher, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Garbage, Handel, Haydn, Hecate, Jerry Goldsmith, Jimi Hendrix, John Barry, John Lee Hooker, John Powell, KMFDM, Krzysztof Penderecki, Lyle Lovett, Marilyn Manson, Mozart, Nina Simone, Propellerheads, Queen, Radiohead, Rammstein, Raubtier, Rob Zombie, The Rolling Stones, Ruoska, Sergio Mendes, Shirley Bassey, Skold, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Stone Temple Pilots, Telemann, Tom Jones, Vince Garauldi Trio, Vivaldi.

I frequently listen to KPLU at 88.5 FM with its classic jazz and blues format and NPR/PRI radio programs.

I am a fan of classic movies and the films on the
American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Movies list. I believe that the Marx Brothers and WC Fields are the funniest people who ever lived. I frequently watch films on Turner Classic Movies.

I am science fiction geek. I enjoy watching Star Trek and its various spin-off series and movies, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica both the old series and the new one, Blake's 7, Doctor Who, UFO, Space: 1999, Torchwood, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, New Captain Scarlet, Fascape, the Star Wars pentalogy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Tron and Tron Legacy. Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus. Yes, I really liked Prometheus and it DOES make sense if you were paying attention. I also enjoyed District 9 and Elysium. I intensely dislike "J.J. Trek."

I own many of these movies and television series on DVD and I am starting to collect them on BluRay. I also own many of the art books, technical manuals, cross-section books, and blueprints of the fantasy vehicles created for these movies and television series and I like to read them sometimes to relax. I presume that you have absolutely no interest in this sort of thing, but hope you will be tolerant of this interest. I am also a fan of True Blood, Let the Right One In and Being Human (UK). I don't care too much for Harry Potter, sparkly vampires, or zombie survival horror.

I am a fan of British television sitcoms. I especially love to watch the surreal and satirical ones and I am a big fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus, the Black Adder saga, The League of Gentlemen, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, Father Ted, Little Britain, Doc Martin, Come Fly with Me, Hyperdrive, and The IT Crowd. I also enjoyed Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Death at a Funeral.

I am a fan of costume dramas such as I, Claudius, Rome, The Tudors, Shogun, Borgia: Faith and Fear and Masterpiece/Mystery on PBS. I also like Spartacus: Blood and Sand and its prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. I am also a fan of Game of Thrones, a fantasy costume drama.

I am a James Bond fanatic and own all the James Bond films on DVD and the original Ian Fleming novels.

I love watching South Park, Futurama, The Daily Show with John Stewart, and the Colbert Report. I believe that Harold Lloyd, the Marx Brothers, Buster Keaton, and W.C. Fields are the funniest people who have ever lived.

I am interested in experiencing more of the world's cuisines and I am willing to set aside my prejudices to try any food once, even toasted insects if he were to travel to Thailand or snake meat while visiting Hong Kong. Just don't expect me swallow if I don't like something. I especially enjoy food that is spicy and I am very interested in experiencing new flavors and textures. I am likely to invite you to join me at an ethnic restaurant on a date. I currently like Thai, Indian, Italian, Ethiopian, Greek, Vietnamese, Lebanese, Japanese (including sushi), and Mexican cuisines and seafood. Though I confess I cannot resist a good burger.

I am a beer snob and enjoy ales and stouts. I am starting to appreciate and sample wines. I typically prefer them red and drier.

I believe that coffee is one of the major food groups. The Food Pyramid needs to be updated.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
There are many things that I appreciate, but there aren't many things I could never do without. I could never do without my dogs, family, or being close to a large body of salt water. Aside from these, nothing else is really important. Though I really appreciate my down comforter, coffee, scuba gear, comfortable wide shoes, NetFlix, HDTV, and a fast Internet connection.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
* Reducing my carbon footprint and the waste that I generate.

* Moving to natural and organic solutions and away from processed foods, genetically modified organisms (GMO), and high-fructose corn syrup.

* How much in common do you need to have with a significant other to have a loving and lasting relationship.

* The plot, characters, situations of my fiction writing projects.

* Why are most shoes only available in D width.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
No Friday night is typical.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
