I am abrupt, ascetic, and bouncebackalicious.

My Self-Summary

So...I consider myself to be geeky, intelligent, clever, adventurous, wonky, confident (except when I’m not), ascetic (except when it comes to books), alternatively calculating and reckless, calm, and contrary. Not all of these come across well in public, at least not at first.

I am an introvert. While do fine in one-on-one situations, if there are other people to pick up the conversational slack, I’ll usually remain silent unless prompted to speak. It's also led to more than a couple "you've done WHAT?"--fun.

I have a disparate range of interests, among them basketball (although I don’t play as much as I like or should), camping, drawing, dance, acting, chess, most types of videogames, comic books (publishing my own on a regular basis is my life’s dream), U.S. politics, writing (I’m middling when it comes to fiction--although I'm improving!--which is what I’d really like to write, although I do write a mean essay), television, running, and tree-climbing. I’m usually game when it comes to trying most new things. I also like maps and smile whenever fonts get brought up in conversation.

In 2001 I became a vegetarian, for no reason I can adequately explain.

In the past five years or so I have been: a janitor-type deal for a high school during Christmas break; a Journalism student; a secretary/executive assistant; a Hispanic Press intern in both the U.S. Senate and the Barack Obama campaign; a Musical Theater and dance student and helped out at a couple of plays; a non-competitive participant at several 5- and 10-kilometer races. Circunstances permitting, I'd like to learn a lot of stuff: cooking. Le Parkour. Web-site creation. Yet more dance classes.

Oh, and for those who care: I am a INTP according to the Myers-Briggs test.

What I’m doing with my life

Standing up, facing it straight, and going for broke. Perpetually refining ideas for comic books. Figuring out what to do with my life. Looking for money and for the perfect The Amazing Race partner. Being at my two dogs' beck and call. Studying Japanese.

I’m really good at

Translating Spanish to English and vice-versa. Falling asleep, any time, any place. Surprising people. Deadpan. Answering phones in rapid succession. Being at the right place at the right time. Eating at an uncommonly fast pace. Walking. Making money last.

The first things people usually notice about me

I look vaguely middle-eastern. So far, I've been asked if I'm Indian, Arabic, Bangladeshi, etc., despite the fact that both sides of my family have been Puerto Rican for at least three generations.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Movies: Almost Famous, The Breakfast Club, The Princess Bride, Superman, The Terminator, End of Evangelion, Kill Bill, vol. 1, Thank You For Smoking, Back to the Future, Speed Racer, Slumdog Millionaire

Music: Given my music illiteracy, I'm not saying anything other than "eh, all kinds, really". Rasputina. Moby. Jillian Goldin. J-Pop. Queen.

TV: Pushing Daisies, The Wire, Wonderfalls, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report. On the anime front, Berserk, Read or Die (OVA), Gurren Lagann, Cowboy Bebop, Dinosaur King (oh, shut up, it's awesome). Futurama

Food: Anything on the table, barring meat. And milk--milk is awesome and underrated.

Books: Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, most of Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot stories, almost anything by Haruki Murakami, Musashi. I am also developing a liking for Terry Pratchett.

Comic Books: Fables, Y: The Last Man, Legion of Super-Heroes(1989-1992), almost anything by Grant Morrison, Fallen Angel, Young Justice, Berserk, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Battle Royale, Empowered.

Videogames: Chrono Trigger, Resident Evil 4, Ace Attorneyseries, Earthbound, Contra III, Beyond Good and Evil, Elite Beat Agents

The six things I could never do without

1) Internet
2) Good food
3) A roof over my head
4) Legs
5) My family's support
6) Dogs

I spend a lot of time thinking about

story ideas which will probably never see the light of day. Corsets, and how they make women look. What to do with my life. How cool it would be to be able to control fire.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm afraid of death. Not dying, per se--that, I can deal with-- but the thought of being unconscious and not being able to wake up--of nothingness. Of course, I suppose that it'll be a moot point once I'm pushing daisies, but that doesn't stop me from worrying about it now.

Although the typical love story leave me cold, once in a while there comes along one that leaves me feeling all warm and schmoopy inside. Pride and Prejudice? I can take it or leave it. Gurren Lagann or Slumdog Millionaire? Awww...

I once spent about a month and a half going to alcoholics anonymous meetings, despite being too cheap for alcoholism or alcohol in general.

You should message me if
