My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I find it hard to write self-summaries, because though I think I know myself quite well, articulating a description of myself, particularly in this kind of context, is difficult for me. I also have trouble with job applications.

I'm older than I look.

I just got glasses for reading and computers. I can now claim to be a real four-eyed nerd. I'm into science and science fiction, roleplaying games and photography.

While my profile says "single" that's not strictly accurate. I am in a long-term open relationship. I'll describe my family to you if you ask. I use "single" because OKC has no option for "In an open relationship", which is what I am on Facebook. "Married" is totally inaccurate, and "seeing someone" tends to imply that I'm not, uh... "available".

One more note about my nick. "Doctor" is not a protected term. I can call myself "doctor", you can call yourself "doctor" if you want, without any qualifications at all. I am not a real medical doctor, though I have an interest in most subjects and am good at research. Don't ask me about your medical conditions - ask a proper qualified physician.

Damn, some of these match questions are really awful. So many false dichotomies!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working for a charity NGO, cruising until I make enough money to quit and become a gentleman of leisure. Should only take another fifty or sixty years.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
avoiding filling out profile essays.

I'm good at a number of things, none of them especially practical. I can use a sword, play the guitar, take photographs, and I am cursed with a complete lack of fear of public speaking.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
You know, I honestly have no idea. I tend to think that people don't notice me until I do something worth noticing, and then that's what they notice.

I've never asked.

Now this is a hard one. I like the things I like. There's always new things to like coming along.

Books - I like books, though currently with internets and good TV I don't read as much or as quickly as I used to. I read science fiction, fantasy and pop science.

Movies - I'm not much of a movie buff. I like escapism and fantasy. Not horror. Star Wars fan since childhood.

TV - Again, escapism and science fiction. Babylon 5, Warehouse 13, Primeval, Futurama, etc.

Music - Oh my. I started learning music at age 7, and though I don't currently play anything regularly, I still retain the love and appreciation of music that I grew up with. I don't so much like bands or artists or genres, I like individual songs. If it's musically interesting, I'll give it a go, regardless of what genre or category it gets shoehorned into.

Food - I am not a vegetarian, though I am quite fussy about the meat I'll eat. I will frequently order veg if I don't feel that I can trust the quality of the meat. Sometimes I'll order veg just because it looks good, and I don't realise until halfway through the meal that there's no meat.

I should also mention that I'm a fan of Dan Savage. If you don't know who that is, go look him up. He is one of the most excellent human beings on the planet.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
The internet
My smartphone (aka. external brain)
My friends and family
A camera
A little escapism now and then
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
how to express sexual desire in a way that doesn't come across as totally creepy. I haven't found a good answer to that one yet.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Watching TV or on the internet. Occasionally playing a tabletop RPG, when everyone's plans all coincide. It's harder than you might think.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have a family and a long-term partner, though she and I have... drifted apart sexually and are no longer sexually active. My family is important to me. But so is being sexually fulfilled. The relationship is totally open - she has another partner who fulfils what she needs. I, currently, don't.

You'll notice that "casual sex" isn't in the "I'm looking for" section. That's not an oversight.

Oh, and I should mention that I used to have an account here under a different name. I deleted that account and started over. If you think I look familiar, that may be why.

You noticed that I mentioned above that I can use a sword and are curious, or if you've found a typo. Also, if you're interested in something that lies in between casual sex and long-term commitment.
