My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Well, first off, I'M usually the one asking OTHER people questions, so...not loving this! But here goes...I'm a documentary filmmaker, spent much of my life in NY City (where I was born), high school in England, college in New England, and now living happily at the beach. I'm passionate about what I do, and it is deeply intertwined with the rest of my life. I have wonderful friends who are as important to me as family...AND I have a wonderful family who adore each other -- parents who've been in love for over 60 years (sadly my mom passed away last year), a delicious niece and nephew, a great brother and sister in law...) and I adore them...I am damn lucky! I go to NY pretty often to see all of them (and to Paris to see my cousins too!). But I love coming home to LA.

I'm a rabid democrat, pop-culture junkie, lifelong musician, addicted to conversation, very politically aware, very easy going, happy most all the time -- happier for sure when I'm sharing this wonderful life with someone wonderful. Love a good meal out (and a good red) with friends but also a salad, pizza and a movie at home. Definitely NOT as comfortable in a suit as in jeans.

I read the New Yorker, but I've been known to watch Two and a Half Men. Have Philip Roth, Malcolm Gladwell, Sue Grafton, Russell Brand, Sherwin Nuland and Stieg Laarson on my Kindle. Saw Chris Cornell, Elvis Costello, Goo Goo Dolls, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs recently, and also Yo-yo Ma and Keith Jarrett (unfortunately not together...can you imagine?!).

I can be a little workaholic, but also have a healthy capacity for laziness (ok, I don't know how healthy it is :). I'm very affectionate with my friends, my family, every one I love...and especially with the one I love. I love animals (definitely a dog person), I think the people in my life would describe me as kind, generous of heart and spirit, smarter than the average bear, and...well, god only knows what else they would say...I guess you'll have to ask them! All that said, I'm probably more complicated than I think, but you'll have to be the judge of that. More later if you're interested.

As for what I'm looking for...basically, somebody who is truly comfortable in her own skin, someone happy (unless there's a compelling reason not to be) who likes who she is, and who likes me as much as I like her. Kindness, compassion, curiosity, passion, we make each other melt, we trust, we rely, you get the idea.

I'm FAR more interested in what makes you tick, fascinates you, motivates you, and preoccupies you than I am in whether you go to spin class 5 times a week or spend hours at the gym. Healthy is great, don't get me wrong, but it's what's inside the vessel that is most important to me.

Other than that, we'll just have to play it by ear. I think we'll both know it if it's right.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
As a filmmaker, I tell stories....I do it because I love it, and sometimes, maybe, I give a voice to those whose stories might otherwise go untold.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Conversation, kissing (I'm told) ...Playing guitar, listening (both personally and professionally). Advice. Hugs. Teasing (all kinds), defusing drama. A little less great at (but enjoy nonetheless) cooking tuna au poivre, finishing the Sunday crossword, wielding a pool cue.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my eyes (blue) and my hair (nonexistent)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Too numerous to list...recently Some Girls - Jillian Lauren, Don't Cry - Mary Gaitskill, This is Where I Leave You - Jonathan Tropper, Denial - Jessica Stern, Outliers - Malcolm Gladwell, Will You Take Me As I Am - Michelle Mercer, Mysteries - Knut Hamsen...the Daily Beast, New Yorker, Drudge,, etc. I know it's trite, but I LOVE Adele. And Florence and the Machine, and Matt Nathanson and of course Stevie, and Todd, and Steely Dan, and Shawn Colvin, Elvis (Costello, not Presley) and Jonatha Brooke, and James Taylor, and the Stones, Beatles, Stevie Windwood. And Vivaldi, Mozart, Arvo Part, Coltrane, Miles...well, you asked! Food...most anything. And we won't even START with movies.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Friends, family, camera, guitar, laptop, KPCC, comfortable bed, music, kisses, a good red, advil :)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
we'll talk...
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
having dinner with friends, falling asleep in a movie, vegging at home...I don't really have a typical week so it's hard to know. I'm probably NOT at a Monster Truck rally, or out Tango dancing (not that there's anything wrong with that :).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!

You truly like yourself, happy is your default setting, you think of home as a haven in a (sometimes) heartless world, you think conversation should be an olympic sport, you're kind to waiters and tollbooth attendants, you think kissing in public is sexy, you love to touch and be touched (not just during sex) oh, and of course, if reading my profile made you smile.
