My self-summary
I'm nothing special... But I've done some interesting things, I'm easy to get along with and I make good conversation (and apple pie).

If you'd like, you can check out the link below to watch a 10-minute docu-video. I show up at 3:17 -

(Please keep in mind that I don't usually go around in a wearing a bandana)
What I’m doing with my life
It's good to be near my family again... It's good to finally be able to help them, to be a contributing part of their lives, rather than simply stopping in for a visit while passing through...

It's also good to once again have a circle of friends. To have people who I can help and be helped by. To have people who I can spend time with and think about.

It's good to have work where I contribute, where I'm a help...

I'm trying to make the most of these opportunities.
I’m really good at
Lots of things... There are also lots of things I'm not good at... I'm a good substitute teacher, but I'm not a good full-time teacher (although I've recently begun to wonder...). I'm a good map-maker, I really enjoy camping in wilderness with good friends (camping on my own is just scary...). I'm good at listening and I'm REALLY good at talking (well, at least I think I am). Oh, and I know how to set up a colony of bees so I can go back later and take their honey.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes and my voice (My students often comment on the depth of my voice in ill-disguised and poorly-conceived attempts to distract me from the lesson plan).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Bible, Treasure Island (Robert Lous Stevenson); Blink (Malcolm Gladwell); The Screwtape Letters (CS Lewis); Guns Germs and Steel/Collapse (Jared Diamond); Song of the Dodo (David Quammen); Siberia (Colin Thubron).

Movies: Fiddler on the Roof; Master and Commander: Far Side of the World.

Shows: West Wing, Newsroom, Futurama.

Music: Not really all that excited about it... But playing classical music in a classroom can really help the students concentrate on individual activites...

Food: Not all that picky. I've eaten Fish and Chips in England, Chipates in India, Fish and Rice in the Philippines, Fou-Fou in Ghana, Duck Brains in Beijing and Octopus Balls in Greece (fried meatballs made with octopus, very good!). I do have a soft spot for In-N-Out (Love their milkshakes)...
The six things I could never do without
God... I could not have made it this far without his guidance and forgiveness.

Family... Without them life would have been harder and a lot less interesting...

Friends... They're the ones who keep me sane...

My computer (Mac), my car (110,000 miles, four owners and not a hint of trouble, even after more than a few trips into the wilderness), my non-stick pie-pan, you know, the usual...

Rather fond of chocolate too...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to be better at this, that and pretty much everything else...
On a typical Friday night I am
hanging out with someone or other, watching movies, playing games, eating good food...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
According to 23andMe I am 3.2% Neanderthal.
