Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi, I'm Dan. I'm an NJ native, but have been living in Philly for 5
years. I'm a recovering lawyer, please try not to hold it against
I'm unapologetically geeky in terms of my tastes in most
entertainment. I can be found with friends at the movies, the
shore, concerts, comedy shows, trying to find the best sushi
restaurants in the area, playing board games/video games and if the
season is right, at Rutgers football games.
I've never been married and I have no children. At this point, I'm
too realistic to be going out to the bar or the club to try to meet
the right girl. Still love to go out, but not to try to get to know
someone via shouting and shorthand sign language.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
House shopping. It's pretty daunting and time consuming.
Just started a new job last year, which unfortunately involves a
long drive. I miss walking to work...but at least the new gig is
much more interesting than the last. I find myself genuinely happy
with what I'm doing for a living in a very very long time.
I was teaching myself German, but this largely slowed down due to
the time constraints of the new job. On the plus side, I can be
seen in my car ridiculously parroting German audio lessons. Not as
useful as my prior lessons, but it's something.
Dealing with a few injuries that are keeping me from getting back
to my weight training regimen. Amazing how important knees and
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Talking and listening. Word games (scrabble, etc). I'd say I'm a
great judge of character, great at movie/tv quotes (a wildly
underrated, if common, skill) and at laughing with my friends (even
at myself). Also, frequent use of parentheses, apparently.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Impossible to list it all without this being huge, but here's a few
samples from each area:
Books: "Good Omens" is probably my favorite book. Anything by
Gaiman, Vonnegut, Steven Brust, William Gibson, or Brandon
Sanderson. I'm all over the place, but mostly read fiction.
Recent good reads:
Pages From the Textbook of Alternate History;
Someone Could Get Hurt: A Memoir of 21st Century Parenting;
Wisdom; Compassion; Serenity: First Steps on the Buddhist Path (not
a practitioner myself, just find it interesting;
Redshirts; The Magician King (see above re: geeky)
(I really tried with Swann's Way recently, but only got about 10%
through, need to go back eventually)
Movies: Comedies are generally my favorites, but A Few Good Men,
Raiders of the Lost Ark, Big Fish, Tombstone, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
and Star Wars are some faves.
TV (All time): Coupling (UK), Firefly, Pushing Daisies, The
Simpsons, BSG (remake), West Wing;
Music: I'll listen to just about anything, but Social Distortion,
Weezer, Bad Religion, Rise Against, Jamiroquai, and Me First &
The Gimme Gimmes are some that I can listen to at just about any
Food: Spicy tuna rolls, NY strip steak. I like to try new things,
though I did not try (nor did I come across, actually) the rancid
shark meat on my trip to Iceland. I love cooking, but kind of hate
that my kitchen is too small.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
In no particular order: The Internet, My Friends, My Family,
Barbells, Books, Pie.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
National politics. Words with Friends. Han Dynasty's DanDan
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Going out with friends to a bar or a movie. Staying in for a movie
or Rock Band or a board game.
Cards Against Humanity = favorite party game.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I often get caught up in thinking of this section as the "most
embarrassing thing I'm willing to admit", which isn't entirely the
same thing, but it works out that way. So, I'll just leave it at
this -- there is a playlist on my phone that has some appalling pop
music that I am almost always tempted to sing along to.
