of Being a Wallflower
(because Charlie and I are the same
person, but different baggage) and Life of
(because Pi and I are...nevermind).
My best friend recommended me Call Me
By Your Name
by Andre Aciman, and I fell in love with his
style. I aspire to write like him. Also, Elio and I are the same
person with the same
baggage. I guess I really
have to empathise with the protagonist in order to truly enjoy a
I'm getting into comics
too. I read a couple volumes of
recently and really enjoyed it. Scott Pilgrim
is great, and I've
dug into Teen
and Young Avengers
as well (I guess I
really like youthful super teams). Nightwing is dreamy and I'm kind
of obsessed with TimKon.
Movies: I don't think my Netflix account would believe I'm a 21st
Century American. I guess that's my fault; all I seem to watch are
foreign biopics or period pieces...especially the gay ones. The
moment I started watching the film, Toast
, I knew it was
going to be my favorite forever. It is. I appreciate good wuxia as
well; Stephen Chow is a favourite.
When I don't watch non-American movies, I watch un-American
documentaries about Hugo Chavez or Sacco & Vanzetti. What can I
say? I'm a leftist and proud of it.
Shows: The only TV I watch is whatever is available on Netflix or
Amazon. Fell in love with Doctor
while ago. Picked up Adventure
(and looking for a friend to watch seasons 2 and
onward). 90s Cartoon Network
is still the
best. Going through Misfits
painstakingly slow pace. Went through Skins
didn't care enough about the third generation to continue past Effy
et al. Downton
is a guilty pleasure. I watch Game of
religiously. Fire and blood.
just watched the trailer for season 4 of Arrested
, and I jizzed in my pants. Ill fates bade me
now I am enchanted. Anthony Head breaks my heart.
Music: I've been in a few choirs throughout my life, so music has
been a pretty solid part of who I am. I like Romance era
, the twang of folk
, sad indie rock
bands, and things from
. Renan Luce
est tant beau. Il me fait trembler.
I go through a favourite band or artist once a month. Rufus
, Death Cab for Cutie
, and Adele
(just as a selection) have gotten me
through some rough times. I am currently drawing a lot of energy
"true school" hip hop.
Food: I was raised to eat anything that was on my plate, even if it
was pig's blood stew and intestine (dinuguan, and it's my favorite
stew). That's growing up in a third-world ethnic culture for you.
I'd be full vegetarian if it was possible with my family's cooking.
It's given me a wide appreciation for every kind of cuisine and a
deep resentment against people who are picky.
If I had to choose one cuisine, I could eat Thai every day forever.
Mexican food also satisfies my munchies to great effect.
