What, you still want to know about me? Fine. I'm a perfectionist, a former Mensa member, a roleplaying gamer and GM (Legend of the Five Rings, anyone?), and a quasi-managerial-level captionist at local colleges and universities. To put it another way, I learn quick, I have opportunities to learn a lot of different things, and for recreation I learn about places that don't exist with rules that only sometimes work.

My self-summary
Updated for the first time in three years! See that "Seeing

What I’m doing with my life
Wishing I had a better job! It's a pretty sweet deal, what I have,
but it's not enough to live well. Truthfully, though, even if I got
something that could pay the bills in a more reasonable and
competent way, I'd still keep on this captioning gig as a
freelancer because it's so awesome.
Eventually, I'd like to disappear. That will be a very complicated process, and difficult to maintain.
I also wouldn't mind moving to somewhere outside of the Americas. Somewhere safer from the tyrannies of religion in government. Middle Eastern countries need not apply.

The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm probably tired. That seems to be the case frequently.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
For books, my drug of choice is William Gibson, because All
Tomorrow's Parties and Pattern Recognition were awesome. Though I
did enjoy Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series while I was
reading it some years ago. Really, anything that has some good, new
(or interestingly-implemented) ideas is good.
Movies, though, is a different story. I generally don't watch movies, because it's a very passive form of entertainment, and I rarely have that much time that I care to put aside to sit and not do anything. That said, I really enjoyed The Prestige and Fight Club, Equilibrum was pretty cool, and the V for Vendetta movie despite my few (but sharp) bones that I have to pick with it.
My choice of music is very simple, in terms of choosing a sort of genre (notwithstanding for this discussion is that within every genre there exist particularly good songs and a large number of bad songs from crap artists). There is basically one criterion: If there are vocals, then the vocal has to be ALL of the music, as in rap, or it cannot think itself the main, focal instrument. This largely restricts my choices to game music and techno-derivatives, because most anything you hear on the radio, the songs are ABOUT the lyrics, not music that happens to also have words as I prefer.
Foods? Well, that's harder to say. I really, really like seafood, to the point that I'd rather have a good clam or shrimp dish than steak any day (but then again, steak is....well, I prefer hamburger to steak). Chili is good, italian is good, Chinese is good. If it doesn't have bones, and there aren't a hundred million cooked vegetables or mushrooms that I have to work around, it's all good.

The six things I could never do without
Maslow's Obligatory Profile Mention, smart people to be around,
Wikipedia (so I can periodically remind myself with a quick visit
to the "quantum physics" section that there's things even I can't
wrap my brain completely around), metaphorical arenas in which I
can put goofy ideas to the test, my hands, and my legs. I guess
each of those counts as two things. I wasn't keeping track anyway.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My Legend of the Five
Rings campaign that I run on Saturdays. I'm used to being a
module GM, since I used to run PARANOIA quite a bit, but more recently
I've been trying to weave my own narrative into cooperative
storytelling sessions. It's challenging! But rewarding.
On a typical Friday night I am
Recovering from the week's onslaught of work. Preparing for the
weekend's onslaught of pencil/paper RPGs. And importantly,
sleeping.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I make it up as I go along. Really. For just about everything.
I’m looking for
- Everybody
- Ages 22–35
- Near me
- For new friends, activity partners
You should message me if
You want to share L5R notes! You want to talk. You find me
interesting! Maybe you want to start a fight! That would be fun
too.
