My self-summary
Knowing yourself well tends to be one of the most difficult aspects of modern life. How well I know myself often varies, but for the purposes of an okcupid account: I'm a creative, social, analytical person who is always up for an adventure, but more often than not find myself a slave to my calendar.
What I’m doing with my life
This is a rather complicated question.

Being a graduate student is a large part of my life. I'm working on my PhD in Neuroscience and in my 3rd year. Many more to go.

I also have a variety of other artistic pursuits. I picked up some makeup about two years ago and developed a bit of a knack for it. I constantly push myself to expand the limits of my creativity. I've body painted women into wild animals for Wiz Khalifa, worked on a series of zombie portraits, and have done some intense facial rhinestoning. It's been quite an adventure. A lot of my makeup work can be found at beautylish.com/fluxphd

I have a nightlife alter ego named Dr. Flux. He hasn't gotten out too much recently, but he's pretty kick ass when he does.

I strive to work at the intersection of science, the public, and the arts.

Life is still my sandbox.
I’m really good at
One of my biggest strengths that I think has lead to success for me scientifically and creatively is my ability to think conceptually and convey ideas in a similar fashion. In science I'm generally able to digest thoughts and ideas into understandable concepts for myself and others. In art I'm able to take an idea or creative vision and turn it into a functional reality. It's one of the few things I'll let myself be proud of.
The first things people usually notice about me
My facial hair is the first. I get stopped on the street for it. In fact, one time, an ambulance driver used his megaphone to compliment my facial hair from across the block. That was an interesting day. I've dyed it blond recently, so I look extra ridiculous.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I don't read for pleasure nearly as much as I did before going into grad school. However, I try to include a few good books here and there. Recently I enjoyed reading Brain Bugs by Dean Buonomano. I've also been reading Sex at Dawn, which is terribly written and poorly executed in my opinion, but it asks some great questions. In terms of fiction I enjoy well written scifi. Growing up I read through as much of the classic 3 that I could get my hands on(Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke). Recently I've read through a bit of Peter Hamilton's work.

I don't often watch TV or movies, but I enjoy content that would belong on a list including Amelie, Stranger than Fiction, Zelig, and things by Quentin Tarantino and Lars von Trier.

My music consumption follows a complex pattern based mainly on viscerally induced pleasure rather than intellectually meaningful content.

Also, NPR.
The six things I could never do without
1. An internet capable communication device
2. Logical reasoning skills
3. Avant garde costumery
4. Bike
5. Calendar
6. Baked goods
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend a large portion of my day analyzing my own behavior and attempting to understand what factors contribute to my decision making. I constantly evaluate my life goals and optimize my behavior to accomplish them in the best way I know how.
On a typical Friday night I am
I can't stand this question. What I can say though is that if you do have a "Typical Friday Night" the chances of us getting along well drastically decrease.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Fruit salad makes me INCREDIBLY uncomfortable.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like guys
  • Ages 23–34
  • Near me
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
You're multifaceted.
You're both analytical and creative.
You've thought deeply about how cultural perceptions of love affect your behavior.
You want to go on an adventure.

I try to define my life by relationships. Some of those relationships include sex. Someday, maybe I'll pick one or a few of those relationships to be roommates with. I try not to ascribe to culturally limited definitions of "love" and it's normative expressions.
