My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
To my perpetual frustration and relief, I am a work in progress. I am, on my best days: compassionate, thoughtful, generous, intelligent, honest, creative, inquisitive, silly, adventurous, and driven to learn and excel. On the other days, all of these qualities are often dampened by insecurities, a tendency to become overwhelmed, and my propensity to over think about so many things at once that there aren't enough neurons left to focus on the things that really matter. I am working on all of this. I want to be the person I want to be more consistently, and do more of the things that interest me. I want to get better at crossword puzzles. I want to be more spontaneous.

Speaking of interests:
I love animals. I love music. I love photography. I love cooking and experiencing new foods. I used to write. I'm very good at it. I'd like to get back into it. I love DIY projects. I love to travel, though I don't have the money to do much of it. I love the outdoors, though I don't spend nearly enough time there. I'm fascinated by differences and similarities between attitudes and philosophies in different cultures; as well as all the intricacies of behavioral neuroscience, behavior genetics, and comparative cognition which we're just learning and have yet to learn. (Forgive me, my background is in evolutionary psychology). I love language. I love the way Brits say "banana". In fact, I seem to be a bit of an Anglophile, at least language-wise. I often say things like "in future," and "if all goes to plan". I love sense memories, especially the ones that make me smile and want to cry at the same time. In fact, I love anything that makes me feel that way.
I greatly dislike:
Bigotry, closed-mindedness, poor grammar, raisins (although I can deal with the latter in certain contexts), condescension, arrogance. I've really, really had enough of cultural/ religious/ political hostility.

There's the nutshell.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Clinging desperately to that good old childlike sense of wonder and enthusiasm for life.

I just moved to Central MA to attend a one-year Master's program (hooray for staying put for a whole year!) at Tufts, in Animals and Public Policy. However, I don't know where I'll end up after that, as it will be largely dictated by the job and/or academic program I find. Which means... that while I really want to be in a relationship right now, it's not the best time for me to be dating. Fair warning.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Giving great gifts.
Reading dogs (as in body language).
Being funny unintentionally; and ONLY unintentionally.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I'm going to forget a lot of these, but here goes:

Books: Vonnegut (if I HAVE to choose a favorite it's, Breakfast of Champions), Nabokov (Lolita, Invitation to a Beheading), Dawkins, good ol' Willy Shakes, Neil Gaiman, Memory, Sorrow and Thorn, Ice and Fire, Harry Potter, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Just Kids, Unaccustomed Earth, A Thousand Splendid Suns

Movies: Home for the Holidays, Dead Poets Society, Shawshank Redemption, the Christopher Guest/ Eugene Levy movies, But I'm a Cheerleader, Breakfast on Pluto, Brokeback Mountain, The Princess Bride, Milo and Otis, Kiss Kiss, Bang

Shows: Doctor Who, The Mindy Project, Sherlock, GoT, Elementary, Hannibal, The Whedons

Music: This is going to be far from a complete list, but I'll do what I can: John Vanderslice, Califone, early/mid-era Wilco and Modest Mouse, Jens Lekman, NMH, GBV, Califone, Youth Lagoon, Grizzly Bear, Beast Rest Fourth Mouth (have yet to check out the new one) Kurt Vile, Syd Matters, Ty Segall, Chad VanGaalen, Woods, Cotton Jones, Califone, Hotel Alexis, Tame Impala, The Walkmen, The Black Angels. Now and then, I also enjoy a little 80s and classic rock, folk, or 90s stuff... though less and less. Oh, and I really like quite a bit of "world music": namely Russian folk and Indian and Middle Eastern. It's pretty difficult to sort through EVERYTHING to find the stuff I like, though. Oh, also Califone.

Food: Again, way too many to list. I love food. In general, I'm big on most Asian foods, particularly Indian and Thai, French food, and watermelon. Oh, and pomegranates. And really good nectarines. And anything with real maple.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Meh. This would just be supposition until I lost everything I could lose.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What I SHOULD be thinking about or doing.
Ev. psych. and animal behavior, and how better to disseminate knowledge thereof.
How to simplify my life and improve myself.
The long-term.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Tonight is a Friday. I'm working on my Dictionary of Common Innominates.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I'm somewhat perplexed by the "body type" choices on here. Even not taking into account the fact that my weight fluctuates quite a bit, any of about three of the labels could conceivably fit me.

Oh, and... a couple lines in Now and Forever (the song) make me tear up a bit.

I'm not a very private person; at least not with respect to facts about myself, so I don't have a lot of "secrets". Ask and ye shall be told.

...the idea strikes your fancy?

And/ or you've noticed me lurking about your profile an inordinate amount. If that's the case, I'm probably waiting until I feel particularly witty to email you.

You have something to say. Please have something to say. It doesn't need to be witty. I feel the need to be witty when making first contact, but that doesn't mean I insist that you are. But have SOMETHING to say. Have a reason for feeling the need to email me other than my looks.
