My Self-Summary

Hi all!
I'm a fairly ordinary girl who usually has more things to do than time to do them in but it keeps me out of trouble so I'm happy with that. I'm an avid horsewoman (hence the name), devoted slave to a dog and two cats, a good friend and great sister (at least I like to think so). I'm currently in my first year of med school so my life can be insanely busy at times but I'm not sure I remember how to live any other way. When I'm not hanging out with friends/family/pets, working or training my horse I love to cuddle up with a good book and just relax and unwind or have a nice nap in the sun (I have an awesome west facing window for late afternoon naps in the sunshine).

What I’m doing with my life

Right now I'm in my first year of med school at the U of A - it is a great deal of work but is also totally fascinating and exciting. One of the unfortunate side effects is that I am almost totally desensitized to topics that might be considered inappropriate dinner conversation etc. Thankfully most of my friends are also in med/vet related disciplines so I usually have the the tamest stories of the bunch...

I’m really good at

Talking my way out of anything, offering snarky commentary on everything that catches my eye, laughing at myself and everyone around me, and riding horses (really good might be pushing it but there's no "I'm getting better at..." category).

The first things people usually notice about me

This is a truly awful question - how many people actually have people approach them and say "I couldn't help but notice your...". Since I have no idea what people actually notice about me I'll just say that I hope some of the first things they notice are my quirky sense of humour or my laugh.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books - Tough choice but I'm a sucker for the classics so my all time faves must be Persuasion by Jane Austen or Vanity Fair by Thackeray, both beautiful brilliant pieces that I have reread many times and still enjoy with each passing.

Movies - I've had virtually no life for the last year so I'm not sure what new movies I love. In general I enjoy the silly romantic comedies (sorry but it's true), almost anything based on comic books and anything with beautiful cars. I certainly enjoy the serious stuff to, a few favourites are The Constant Gardener, The Quiet American and Memoirs of A Geisha, but for the most part I choose popcorn flicks as there is more than enough serious stuff in real life.

Music - I'm a huge Nine Inch Nails fan and I like most of the 90s alterna-rock. My ipod is usually a mixture of 90s grunge type music and classic old rock. I'm sure there are loads of great new bands out there but I just haven't bothered discovering them yet (the joys of outgrowing the MTV age - you have no idea what new stuff is coming out and even less inclination to care).

The six things I could never do without

In no particular order:

My family (this includes my pets)
My horse
My laptop (okay I could do without this but I really wouldn't want to)
A good book or two
Beautiful sunny summer days
My car (boring but true)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My plans for the future or my plans for the next day. How to master a particular movement in my horse's training. Why the sky outside my office window never seems to be a true indicator of the weather outside. Something silly one of my friends/family/pets did recently. ZZZzzzzzz.....

On a typical Friday night I am

Riding my horse, hanging out with friends and family, taking my dog jogging through the river valley, running all the errands I neglected all week, sleeping.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have a serious diet coke addiction (and I'm in no hurry to get rid of it).

I'm a struggling novelist - the struggle is that the only time I can really dig in and get tons of writing done is when there's something else I really should be doing. I love writing but I get bogged down in the details at times...

I'm beginning to think I'm a terrible dog owner - I actually spilled a can of paint on my mutt the other day and I couldn't get her cleaned up for ages as I was too busy laughing at the giant cranberry coloured splotch on her chest. And I've been known to give her toys and treats when she wants to go for a run and I want to veg out on the sofa for another hour.

I hate bugs - particularly butterflies and ladybugs - they are just moths and beetles in pretty disguises meant to fool us!

You should message me if

You want to?

Okay that's kind of cliched and it's really hard to find something to say in an initial message so here's a random question instead: Red or blue - which is better?
