Reflective, Honest, and a Level 10 Nerd

My self-summary Propose an edit

I'm a recent graduate from Whitman College with a double major in English and Theatre. I just moved in to a house with a bunch of my college friends, after spending a year with the family, and things are going supremely well. I'm both gay and Christian, which has given me a lot of food for self-discovery and contemplation in the last year (I came out November 2005). I firmly believe that every person's faith should be an examined one, and that matters of spirituality, faith, and philosophy are the most important things in life. Life is a wonderful and difficult gift, and I'm thankful for all the people in my life to help me through it.

I like: sugar, semicolons, and Shakespeare.

I dislike: people who don't use their turn signals, Papyrus font, and politics.

I'm here at OkCupid because I think the matching algorithms are cool, and because I don't really know how those of us just out of college are supposed to meet people. I'm an idealist, a musician, and a poet. I'm also an avid video game fan, an academic, and a huge fantasy nerd. I believe that people are complex, beautiful things, and each of us gets to express many different facets of what it is to be human.

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

I'm currently working retail at Eddie Bauer at University Village, between acting gigs. I hope to pursue acting for a good long time, and thus far I've been wholly impressed with the amount of theatre there is to be had in Seattle. I guess I'm also trying to figure out what it means to be a post-graduate, and how to be a grown-up.

I'm really good at Propose an edit

Digging until people say what's really on their mind, using awkward pauses and subtle guilt manipulation tactics. Also, punctuation!

I wish I were good at cooking, studio art, and staying in touch with old friends.

I will have to settle for being alright at acting, writing poetry, and various and sundry video and/or board games.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit

I'm pretty tall, and usually smiling. If I'm not smiling, people will often get freaked out and ask "Daniel, what's wrong?!" but never fear - that's just my non-emoting face. I'm an introvert, but if I'm in a social setting I tend to try to be extroverted, which is fun, but exhausting.

I suppose you'd have to ask some other people what they noticed first to get a good answer to this question!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit

A) The Bible, Ender's Game, The Solace of Leaving Early, The Many Colored Land, Hamlet
B) Frequency, Minority Report, Amelie, Lord of the Rings, Brokeback Mountain, Pan's Labyrinth
C) The Real Group, Switchfoot, Classical, Jazz, Musical Soundtracks
D) Swedish Fish, and pretty much anything else that didn't come out of the ocean

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

* Love
* Family

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit

God and His plan for my life, relationships and the difficulties associated with being and not being in one, video games, whatever book I'm reading, poetry.

On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit

Hanging out with my friends at a bar, watching a movie, or playing World of Warcraft with high school friends. Often, I am at rehearsal :)

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit

I don't like baby elephants. I think they look retarded. I understand that most people are not with me on this one, and I'm OK with that.

You should message me if Propose an edit

You are a gay Christian - we should talk! Or if you are gay but not Christian, or Christian but not gay, and you feel like talking about that interaction. Or maybe you are just as nerdy as me and you want to talk about M:tG or D&D or WoW. Or maybe you write poetry and you want to swap poems. Or you are a recent college grad and you have found yourself alone in Seattle. Or any/all of the above in any combination.
