My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I cherish communication, honesty, and reflection. I'm also looking for insight on building alternatives to oppressive institutions...i.e. capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, heteronormativity, etc. I actively seek to be a part of contemporary efforts toward Social and Environmental Justice.

I'm often caught getting all excited with kids about snails or boogers and chatting with older people about life and the world.

I also draw and paint. I like talking with movie nerds about movies, theater nerds about theater, forestry nerds about trees etc. I like hiking, biking, yoga, running, and the occasional skydive.

What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Reading, talking, listening, drawing, painting, and teaching.

I'm teaching a lot of sociology at community college, working with folks with learning disabilities in a charter school, and working with a great food justice group that you should check out: I'm generally having fun with my 7 housemates as we guide our collective cooperative ship toward a place where needs are taken seriously. Big lavish hippy meals and hanging with my brother.

Last year I took an 8-month trip through Ecuador, Colombia (2 months), The Caribbean, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and LAOPDR. It is still with me.

I'm also eating plenty of garlic and spicy stuff.

I've just applied to PhD programs, set to begin fall 2015
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm an animated story-teller, supposedly...and I'd like to think that I'll be good at teaching someday.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
...That they're involved in co-constructing my identity as we speak.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: So many books...critical theory and other folks such as Angela Davis, bell hooks, Andrea Smith, (Feeling a HUGE urge to name-drop a ton of fancy pants theorists and prison memoirs here...but I hope you get the point). I also love literature like: White Noise, Catch 22, Notes from Underground, Zin and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Sartre's plays, The Road, Chekov, Tolstoy.

Academic Articles.

Movies: Easy Rider, Raging Bull, There Will Be Blood, Taxi Driver, Lost in Translation, Bottle Rocket, China Town, The Graduate, Eraserhead... Documentaries! The Black Power Mixtapes...

Music: Punk and post-punk (The Sreamers, Rudimentary Peni, The Dead Boys, Joy Division). indie stuff (Grimes, Arcade Fire, The Smiths), thrash or noise (Melt Banana, Spazz, Limp Wrist), hip hop (Dead Prez, Tupac), jazz (Monk, Davis, Mingus) and: The Talking Heads, Devo, Bon Iver, Dinah Washington, Sigur Ros, Beach House, Lightning Hopkins, The Knife, Deerhunter, Elton John, Slayer, Grandaddy....Feist (yeah, really, Feist).
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Other people, engaging events, exercise, fun, art, coffee, books, reflection, post-college study groups, production, destruction, refreshing early mornings, dense movies...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Social theory, art stuff, big questions, small questions, life plans, funny-good-times, depressing-bad-times, the future, the past...

Movements, people's power, power's people...

My house plants
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I don't have a set schedule but love artsy fun good dancing times whenever...and I love sleeping early for good mornings too.

I don't really drink but love to go out.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
My friends who identify as "Girls who like guys" have shown me their full message inboxes. So, I hesitate to send messages to everyone I find intriguing. If I don't send a message and you think we would mesh-up, please feel free to send something.

I'm into doing something interesting, taking a walk, visiting Albany Bulb, that amazing cemetery, the Lake, etc.

Also, we could be friends, like, for real. If you're a student of mine, let's be facebook buddies.
