I am thoughtful, reflective, and tranquil.

My Self-Summary

Hi, my name is Brandon. I like to self-reflect... You know, like a mirror, looking at itself. 0.o?

Let's see, I'm one-quarter Japanese. As such, I've always had an interest in Japanese culture and language. I'm at least mildly interested in all areas of academic study, but my biggest interest lays within Astronomy and the various social sciences. I've also had a long lived fascination with mythology, particularily Greek/Roman, and Norse, but others interest me as well. Oh, and dinosaurs, naturally!

I enjoy hiking/walking, especially around Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Terrace Oaks Park, Nerstrand State Park, and Jay Cooke State Park, and I'm always open to suggestions for new places to visit. I love long drives to nowhere, though it may not be terribly economical, it can provide a much needed escape from everyday drab. And how can you put a price on that? I love trying new foods, but don't get as much of an opportunity to as I would like. I did recently try some tempeh that I bought at Trader Joe's and some Siggi's skyr that I picked up at Whole Foods. Both excellent! Although I don't drink often, I love trying new non-mainstream beers. Know a good one? Send me a message!

Discovering new music is, I consider, an integral piece in my personal development and so I love listening to things I've never heard. And if I don't care for it, at least I know. I think it's fun to spend hours browsing wikipedia just to be able to have facts to share with people with the subject comes up in conversation. I place a solid emphasis on personal health and fitness. I recently started an at-home fitness routine called P90X. After about a month, I can say it definitely isn't for the weak of heart, but it does seem to be showing results.

I used to be very serious about Christianity, studying in great length. After a great deal of introspection over a long period of time, I concluded that even if it represented truth with a capital 'T' that I still could not in good conscience be a follower of it. Leaving the faith proved to be a source of a great deal of grief and depression for a number of reasons. I wrestled greatly with the possibility that I was making a conscious decision that would damn myself to hell forever. And more immediately, I was giving up a social network that I wouldn't be able to regain. Since that time, I have attempted to discover spirituality in a much simpler way, through an appreciation of my oneness with the universe and the inherent beauty present in all things.

In high school, I won a talent show contest by solving 4 scrambled Rubik's cubes in under 3 minutes. I had an average time to solve a Rubik's cube in 28 seconds, and a best time of 20 seconds. My basic method, was a '+' in the first layer, then solve the F2L in 4 moves, then orient the LL in two steps, the permute the LL in one. If you know what I'm talking about, major kudos. If you don't know, but haven't clicked away. You get kudos too :)

And most importantly, I'm ultra cool, can't you tell?

What I’m doing with my life

"The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which; he simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both."
-Buddha

I’m really good at

Video games yo! FPS and RPG's being my primary choices. i.e. Doom, Quake, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty, Half Life and the entire HL universe, especially Counter-Strike (1.6), Diablo 2, Elder Scrolls, and so on and so forth.

Generally, I'm good at games of strategy. Nerd Warning: I was captain of my high school's chess team.

I'm fantastic at pretending like I'm good at singing! Wanna do karaoke? I'm all about that if it's a song I like. But if it's not one I like, get ready for parody in the extreme.

I also am a self-proclaimed expert in the science and practical application of Stuff, with a focus on Things. Just ask me about anything, I'll tell you what you need to know. :P

The first things people usually notice about me

Definitely that I'm human, a male, youthful in appearance. As opposed to say, an old female baboon. Thank goodness for that right?

But seriously, I'm not too sure. Perhaps it is that before they've even seen me, they've heard me singing... loudly, and that I am therefore, somehow insane.

Also I look younger than I am. It can be frustrating to get carded every time I go to the Mall on the weekends. And no joke, at the sampling table at the grocery store, I was asked if I had permission from my parents to try a sample. *palm face*

But at least when I'm older, I'll appreciate looking young :)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Sushi, Sashimi, Tempura, Gohan, Udon, Yakisoba, Miso, Katsudon, Tonkatsu, Raamen, Sukiyaki, O-Cha, Mochi, and so on and so forth... Hmm, I'm beginning to sense a theme here... Also, Belgian Strong Ales, like Duvel, Gulden Draak, Affligem, and any number of a variety of others (mmmmmmm)

I enjoy listening to 89.3 The Current (thecurrent.org)

I like to say that I like good music, und keine eier. Yes, even hip hop and country can be great when done right. Nothing is off limits!

For a specific list of artists I like, message me. I basically like a lot of different music so its hard to pick a handful of artists that are going to properly represent what it is exactly that I like. I do have a last.fm account. So if for some reason you'd like to know what exactly I've been listening to, add me.

The six things I could never do without

1. Celestial objects, especially the sun
2. Nature
3. Cereal
4. Serenity
5. Humanity doing good things for one another
6. Relaxation

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Life, the universe, and everything. And I get very dizzy in the process. But that is what is fun about it!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I am hopelessly addicted to energy drinks. I've tried to kick the habit, but it's much more difficult than I ever would have anticipated!

You should message me if

... You want to shave inches from your waist line. Or lose 25 pounds in 2 hours. Or eat whatever you want and still lose weight. Or build enough muscle to bench press 500 pounds. (Results not typical, success may vary) But my reply is guaranteed to be custom tailored just for you, or your money back (save s&h)! Don't delay, message now.

Silliness aside, as my "the skinny" denotes, I'm looking for new friends and activity partners (guys and/or girls), in addition to prospective romantic partners. These things can be exclusive to each other! So if you live nearby and are looking for someone to go on a hike with, or try a new restaurant that opened up, or watch a movie that just came out, or go to a concert, or a community gather, or whatever!, then I invite you to get to know me better and perhaps we can forge a new exciting friendship and go on adventures to seek the Holy Grail... or something.
