On the creative side of things, I've recently released an album, and am in the process of making a second one and getting acquainted with the Twin Cities folk scene. I do some theater, as well as some writing, and xylography. I'm also working on a 'Central Minnesota Stories Project', where I record people's anecdotes, memories, tall tales, and songs.
My first (rough) album is here:
More of my music:
-Acting and public speaking
-Building sustainable solutions for things
-Working towards a more just society
-Self-criticism, listening to others, and keeping a level head
Nonfiction Books: Changes in the Land, Sand County Almanac, Governing the Commons, Kapital, The Shock Doctrine, People's History of the United States, A Modest Proposal, works by Noam Chomsky, Vandana Shiva, John Bellamy Foster, Marx, Engels, Bookchin, etc, and more or less any non-fiction in environmental science and policy, economics and development, political ecology, globalization, and capital. I probably read more non-fiction than fiction, which is a situation I may need to remedy.
Movies: Forrest Gump, Blues Brothers, O Brother Where Art Thou, The Muppet Movie, The Dark Crystal, Star Wars, Pan's Labyrinth, Braveheart (delicious inaccuracy!), Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the works of Hayao Miyazaki, revisionist westerns, and documentaries and nature shows.
Plays: A Devil Inside, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Marx in Soho, The Iceman Cometh, A Christmas Carol, The Pillowman, Little Shop of Horrors
TV Shows: Futurama, Firefly, Sherlock, Game of Thrones, and Hell on Wheels.
Radio Show: Prairie Home Companion and other things on MPR or NPR.
Music: Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Stan Rogers, Arlo Guthrie, Ryan Harvey, John Prine, Joe Pug, John Hartford, Iris Dement, Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, Sarah Jarosz, The Band, Simon And Garfunkel, Old Crow Medicine Show, Trampled By Turtles, Giving Tree Band, The Men They Couldn't Hang, Red Tail Ring, Kossoy Sisters, Norman Blake, Charlie Parr, Doc Watson, Ruby Magpie, Mister, Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crooked Still, The Dubliners, The Clancy Brothers, The Chieftains, Eric Bogle, The Pogues, Gaelic Storm, Wolfe Tones, Planxty, Dropkick Murphies, Fleet Foxes, Iron and Wine, Dead Kennedys, Stiff Little Fingers, Bad Religion, Agalloch, Ghost Mice, Streetlight Manifesto, Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones. As implied by the list, my favorite genres are folk, bluegrass/roots/old-time, Irish trad, punk, folk-punk, and ska. Lately, I've also been listening to some Cascadian black metal and folk metal.
Food: That's a toss-up between curry, and fish and chips. Actually, you know what? Fish and potato curry. That would probably be it.
