My self-summary
First things first. I'm already claimed and am serious about my loyalty. I have no problem with people that believe in seeing more than one person at the same time or separating physical love from commitment, it’s just that isn’t who I am. And unless you can talk my girl into sharing me it isn’t an option.
I’m simply here to meet new friends and take quizzes.

Now, on to me. I make films, perform and teach improv comedy, hang out with friends watching movies and films. I enjoy acting. I like playing nerdy/geeky type games, like Warmachine, Warhammer, Warhammer 40k, and rpg / role playing games such as Earthdawn and Gurps. I play way too much Rock Band and Guitar Hero. I play alto saxophone, flute, and am trying to learn guitar. I study martial arts, sword use, swords of all styles such as the katana, shinobikatan, Rapier, Main gauche, Foil, Gladius. Kodachi, Wakizashi, and Dao. My friends and I get together regularly to beat on one another to better our skills in fighting with weapons and unarmed combat. Styles I've practiced are karate, ninjitsu, kendo, kenjitsu, jujitsu, shotokhan, and a few others. I've found that there isn't a best martial art but it completely depends on the person using it. I joined OKCupid mainly to take all the cool quizzes and maybe meet some folks with similar interests that want to hang out, watch movies, make movies, get in some combat practice, play games, play video games, and so on.

I am Spontaneous, Demiurgic, and Kevin Smith-ish

What I’m doing with my life
Making films and trying to get better known for that. I'm aiming to make this the year I get most of the films I've done on to You Tube.

If for some reason you want to check out one of my films go here: http://www.theshootoutboulder.com/ and scroll down to the one titled: inexperience
It is the 9th one down and has the picture of the two girls about to kiss.

It's about a PG-13 in rating because of a few "swear words" and adult situations, including a brief shot of a naked butt. So if that kind of stuff offends you please don't bother watching it.

There are a few things to keep in mind if you do watch this. It was made for a film contest in Boulder where teams only had 24hrs to make their films and could only edit using their camera (no editing on computers). Even with those handicaps the film still managed to make it into the top 10 out of about 60 entries.

I’m really good at
Gah!! Too many things. Actually it's not that I'm REALLY good at a lot of things but I do have a wide variety of skills at some level. So, the best way to be modest would be to name the things I've been told I am good at: I'll go with top five 1) Sword Fighting 2) Improv Comedy/Acting 3) Being the voice of reason 4) Making movies 5) Cooking

The first things people usually notice about me
I've actually never asked anyone that, and since it seems like I need to know that for this question.... My best guess is they notice my quick wit. (The joke in that is the timing in which you read it. Place a long pause where the periods are. See? I say "quick wit" but it takes forever to say it. Get it? Doh, never mind.)

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I've decided to expand this section instead of listing just one in each category as I had previously done.

BOOKS:
I wish I read more. My problem is I don’t read fast enough to keep my attention. Although I haven’t actually been diagnosed I suspect I have the slightest bit of ADD and Dyslexia. Then again, I could just have over trained myself to multitask that I’ve lost the skill to focus. But I found there were some books that I could read fast enough that I made it through them. My all time favorite book, probably because it was the first I read, is Flowers for Algernon. I’ve also read most of the books in the Anita Blake series. I’ve tried reading a few different Stephen King books but the only one I finished were his short story collection he wrote as Richard Bachman. I made it a few chapters into the Stand and got feed up with a whole chapter devoted to introducing and developing a character only to have her fall down a well and die at the end of that chapter. Maybe there was a point to it that comes up later in the book. Either way, it made me feel cheated so I put it down. I also made it a few chapters into the first Dark Tower book but the writing style didn’t grab me. I can recommend some good Graphic Novels (comic books that are not meant for kids) such as The Watchmen, Preacher, Sandman, The Walking Dead, 100 Bullets, The Crow, and Sin City.

MOVIES:
Right. There are so many movies I like. I don’t have the time to list them all and you don’t have the time to read them all. So I’ll stick with the ones that I can type done limiting myself to a few minutes.
Seven, Mr. and Ms. Smith, 12 Monkeys, The Fight Club, Seven, Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Seven Samurai, Lone Wolf and Cub series, Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Duck Soup, Noises Off, Bullets Over Broadway, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Blues Brothers, Die Hard, Blade Runner, Alien, Aliens, Predator, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Equilibrium, Ichi the Killer, Jackie Chan films (the not so much the ones made in America), Jet Li films (not so much the ones made in America), Enter the Dragon, Six String Samurai, The Matrix (only part one. The other two were ok, but I could have made better), Moulin Rouge, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Duelists, Train Spotting, City of Lost Children, Near Dark, Underworld, 5th Element. Doh, time is up. I have to stop now.

TELEVISION: I love well done TV shows. Sadly, somehow, Fox gets some great ones and then gives them the Axe. Firefly, I sooooo loved this show. I call it the best TV show that never existed. I know that isn't accurate but it feels like that. I am still pissed at the FOX network for canning it. Family Guy - another show Fox canceled Fox, Arrested Development - ANOTHER show canceled by Fox,Buffy the vampire slayer, Angel, Lost, Reaper, Scrubs, The Simpsons, South Park, Harvey Birdman, Aqua Teen Hungerforce, Medium. This list could go on for awhile, and even if I only listed the shows that I enjoyed that Fox killed it would still be too long a list.

I like Japanese anima. There are some TV shows, such as Ranma 1/2 and This is Greenwood that are fun. And there are of course the movies such as Akira, Princess Mononoke, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind to name a few.

MUSIC:
Again, this subject could take up a lot of space. I’ve found that I can find at least one song/piece in each music category that I like, but some categories I listen too more than others. I tend to go through phases, as I suspect most people do. The one thing I can’t stand is radio DJs. Their humor (or lack of) hurts my head. I also despise commercials so if I’m listening to the radio I will change channels the second the music stops and the talking starts.
Bands I like:
They Might Be Giants, Weezer, Annie Lennox (the Eurythmics), Bjork, Feist -I also find those three woman hot-, Tricky, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Peter Gabriel, Vangelis, Charlie Parker, Freezepop, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Angelo Badalamenti, Julee Cruise, Danny Elfman, and Tenacious D.
OK, I’m again seeing I need to stop or this could go on for awhile.
I’ll wrap this up with I like instrumental soundtracks and goth/industrial music. While on the computer I tend to have DigitalGunfire.com playing.

FOOD:
Yes. Ok, there is little I don’t like. And since a good chef can make anything taste good I will try things that I didn't like at one place at another place. Instead of listing foods I like I’ll put down my top ten places I like to eat.
1. Domo: (Traditional Japanese)
2. Jerusalem (Middle Eastern)
3. Ted’s Montana Grill: (Buffalo Meat)
4. Yue Garden (Chinese)
5. Kokoro (Japanese)
6. Illegal Pete’s: (Big-Ass Burritos)
7. Beau Jo’s (Pizza)
8. Armando’s (Italian)
9. Tokyo Joes (Healthy – Americanized Japanese food)
10. Half Past Subs: (Hippy Sub Shop in Boulder. Not a fan of hippies, but I like the subs.)
Seeing 4 of my 10 choices I suppose I like Asian food the best.

The six things I could never do without
I don't know why this question has been such a pain in my butt. It should be obvious that this question should be "The six things you would really not have to do without but could." Clearly no one can ever do without air. Anyways, six things that bring lots of joy to my life that would change me if I had to give up...

1) Caffeine (mainly in Coke form but also in really good quality coffee drink form).

2) Playing games, all kinds. Strategy, PC, videogames, card games, Role Playing Games, puzzle games, Etc... I need that stimulation and challenge of the mind and manual dexterity.

3) Impulsiveness. I have problems sticking to a schedule. I like the option of flexibility in situations.

4) Entertainment arts: music, plays, movies, books, art, etc. Again, this is great stimulation for the grey matter.

5) Physical and emotional intimacy. I could never be a monk, as much as I'd love to master Shoalin Kung Fu.

6) Learning and studying. If I was denied to ability or opportunities to increase my skills and learn new ones I'd suffer mental atrophied.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
That last question. (Callback humor). But seriously...

Story ideas that I want to make into films.

Philosophy (how's that for vague?).

Religion, a little. More so on ethics and morals.
Tell me, would you rather hang out with someone that does the right thing because that is what they want to do or because they think they will burn in hell for ever if they don’t do the right thing?

It's irritating sometimes how thoughts churn in my mind. A single thought can branch off into hundreds of other thoughts and somehow by someone mentioning the word "chicken" I can connect it to "zombie Jesus". If that doesn't scare you off then we will get along.

On a typical Friday night I am
I used to be doing improv at the local coffee house, but they changed their hours and now the group is not performing except at special events. With Fridays being freed up I use them to have movie night and game night. My friends and I will watch a movie one Friday then the next we play a game, such as Order of the Stick, Heroscape, Warmachine, Poker, or video games such as Rock Band.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Meh. I'm really private, at least when the conversation isn't face to face. Get me talking in person and I tend to be a lot less shy.

-edit-

I thought of a few things I could throw into here. I think Goth girls, Asian girls, and non-traditional girls are hot. Where other guys drool over Pamela Anderson and most of the girls on the cover of Maxim I drool over girls like Michelle Yeoh Choo-Kheng, Hitomi Akano, Laila Ali, Milla Jovovich, and Michelle Rodriguez and something.

Also, this isn't so much private as it is (from what I've seen) a rarity. I have never tried any recreational drugs. Unless you count coffee as a drug, which I've actually had a few people try to tell me that. I guess it was an attempt at them justifying to themselves that their own drug use.

I don’t think it makes a person bad or stupid to do these things. I think that it is short sided, but in the long run everyone is going to die anyway and as long as the person using the drug understands they are altering/limiting there existence and body then it is their choice. If someone wants to chew and swallow glass then go for it, as long as they aren’t blind to the out come. It is like wearing seat belts. If someone understands that their life is pretty much forfeited in an accident without a seatbelt and still chose to not wear one then fine. BUT, few people take into account that they are putting other passengers and people outside of the car at risk of being smashed with their 100+ pound sack of bones, blood, and meat, and that is just rude.
I hold to the idea that ignorance is not stupidity and it is up to those of us that are enlightened to offer teachings to those that want it. Stupidity is when you show/teach someone something and they chose to ignore it.

Anyways, back to the drugs. It’s just the times I’ve been in situations where I was offered drugs I had no desire for it. Something seems really unnatural about lighting something on fire, sticking it in your mouth, and sucking on it. Also, there are so many things out there that attempt to obscure reality that I don’t need substances helping obfuscate it.

I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 26–45
  • Near me
  • For new friends
You should message me if
You should message me if you are inspired to do so. You should message me if you want to talk about movies, books, philosophy, martial arts, whatever. You should message me if you are looking to do some acting, make a short film, or being involved in any aspect of film making. It's what I do, I love it, and I love to help people get into it. I try to make at least one short film a month, so I'm always looking for people that want to join my crazy little group. The only thing I need to warn you of is my group and I have a dark sense of humor (such as Black Adder, Shaun of the Dead type of humor) and can be very strange. You should message me if you are looking for someone to hang out with that is mainly interested in being friends. You should message me if you are looking for a someone or a group to hang out and watch movies or play video games with.

More importantly, you should message me if you want me to message you. Considering that this is the internet I'm hesitant to message someone first, even if I see that you have checked out my profile. So, if you see that I've looked at your profile don't take it personal if I don't message you. It just means that I don't like to be the first one to initiate contact, at least not over the internet. You can message anything, such as just "Hi", and that will let me know you want me to message you. I know, it's a little weird. But I'm weird.
