I am inquisitive, quiet, and contemplative.

My Self-Summary

I'm a biology geek, a ravenous consumer of books, a dog-lover, and an aikido enthusiast. I have a very dry sense of humor that doesn't usually come out until I'm comfortable with somone - something that takes quite a while. I usually start off thinking the best of people I meet, but it takes me a long time to decide that I'm right about my initial judgment and actually start to trust someone on more than a basic level.

I live in Northern California on the coast, in what has to be one of the most gorgeous places on the planet.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm one class shy of a degree in general biology, and currently work as a phlebotomist at a local hospital. I'm good at it and it pays well, but it's not very stimulating and I'd like to finish my degree and apply to grad school. Currently appeasing my inner geek by learning Golic Vulcan.

I’m really good at

?
people have told me that I'm good at drawing blood, that I'm good in a crisis, that I'm good with animals, that I'm a good artist, that I'm good at writing... I have no idea how much of that was very true when it was said, and how much is true now.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm quiet.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Favorite authors are Barbara Kingsolver and Sherman Alexie; favorite sci-fi authors are David Brin and C.J. Cherryh. I go through 2-3 fiction books a week (usually sci-fi or fantasy), and am usually working on at least three non-fiction books at a time. My current novel is Melinda Snodgrass's The Edge of Reason, and my current non-fictions are The Omnivore's Dilema by Michael Pollan, The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, and Animals in Translation by Temple Grandin. No favorite movies, but a sheepish appreciation of wire-assisted kung-fu movies like 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.' My small-screen media consumption is pretty much entirely computer-based.
Favorite foods are eclectic, anything from chili rellenos to minestrone soup (as long as it's fresh!). I eat mostly vegetarian, but don't feel guilty when I satisfy my once-or twice-yearly craving for steak.

The six things I could never do without

aside from the universal air-water-food-shelter-friends: Hot water (excepting a week here or there for backpacking trips); Canine companionship; Beautiful scenery; The dojo; The Farmer's Market (closed in the winter time, but still one of my favorite things); Large bodies of water (ocean/lake/river).

I spend a lot of time thinking about

everything.
Science. Science fiction. My local habitat. My job. Politics. Books. My dog.

On a typical Friday night I am

At work.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I love men's voices.

You should message me if

you love salticids (or even if you know what salticids are).
