Geek Love, A Confederacy of Dunces, and Youth in Revolt. Ender's
Game is one of my all time favorites, but I feel less great about
that since learning that Orsen Scott Card is an outspoken
gaybashing asshole. I love short stories, and some of my favorites
are by Raymond Carver, TC Boyle, and Jhumpa Lahari. McSweeney's is
always a good read, too.
I love going to the movies. Even the bad ones, if they're at the
Arclight. I love movies with quirky characters. Don't really care
about explosions. I love rooting for the underdog. And I love the
BBC 7 Up series a lot. Mostly I'm just killing time until the next
The Datsuns, EODM, the Bronx, Joe Jackson, the D4, Merle Haggard,
Minor Threat, NWA, the Afghan Whigs, Billy Bragg, the Murder City
Devils, Grinderman, the Beach Boys, The Damned, Thin Lizzy, Mando
Diao, The Jam, Elvis Costello, Sam Cooke, The Style Council and
Paul Weller. I'm always happy to get turned on to new music. When I
discover a new favorite it makes me happy like a little kid. And no
offense, but I don't like Radiohead.
In the car lately I'm happiest listening to This American Life. I
have a fat crush on Ira Glass. There's a Break-Up episode with Phil
Collins that is one of the best things I've ever heard.
Everything but goat cheese, feta cheese and lamb. I like to cook,
but not just for myself so much. I love checking out new
restaurants. Equally happy with high brow and low brow, but have no
patience for pretension. if someone wants to go to Wolvesmouth and
can get us a spot, I'm there.
I don't watch a lot of TV, but Homeland, Friday Night Lights,
Breaking Bad, The League, the Wire and Iron Chef make me happy when
