Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Well, I have a degree in French Literature so I read/have read a lot of that. Stendhal's Le Rouge et le Noir is a favorite. Also just about any Dumas. My favorite is probably the war of religions trilogy (La Reine Margot etc). I'm also a big fan of Simon Winchester's non-fiction. Poetry would be probably Baudelaire, James Tate, Gwendolyn Brooks, John Ashbury, Mario Benedetti.

Been revisiting the Blood Sugar Sex Magik album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers a lot lately. And also Patsy Cline. And Parliament. And MC Solaar. DJ Shadow. Ya, kind of all over the map... My "normal" music runs from Bluegrass to West African Hip Hop. I listen to a lot of international music. Choc Quib Town, Mala Rodriguez, Magic System, Yelle, Amadou & Mariam, Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Brel, Ojos de Brujo etc etc. I'm also a huge Zappa fan. Basically everything except top 40.

I watch tons and tons and tons of documentaries. Like 4-5 a week, and anything from that crappy History Channel show Ancient Aliens to Herzog. And pretty much anything that can be considered a "classic". The older the better. I love a good noir, and anything with a fast talking dame. Preferably Mae West. I used to say that The Umbrellas of Cherbourg was my favorite movie...but I think now it's A Woman is a Woman. I'm a big Svankmajer fan as well. The funny thing is that Im NOT a film snob, but I really like what most people would consider weird film snob movies. *shrugs*

As far as TV goes I'm a big X-Files fan. I'm on season 6 right now (this is my second time around). The Wire, also and always amazing, and as a Baltimoron it has a special place in my heart. But my fall back tends to be British cop dramas. I've watched all 13 (17? I forget how many) seasons of A Touch of Frost.
The six things I could never do without
You can do without most anything, if you have to.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My dog Harley.

My knitting. Specifically what I'm going to make next with what yarn...and do I have enough yarn for that? What if I used two different colors? Do I have the right size needles? Ad infinitum.

How to strike the perfect balance of cute but comfortable footwear.
On a typical Friday night I am
Relaxing at home, unless somebody makes me go out, which I love, but it sometimes takes some prodding. Im lazy.

But now, with my puppy around, going out actually takes some planning and forethought, so I'm at home even more that I used to be. Probably watching a movie with my buddy Woxidu.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
As I've gotten older I find my dating choices are more and more influenced by basic biology. Skinny hipster dudes = out. Rugby players = in.
