I am fun-loving, sensible, and strong-willed.

My Self-Summary

I'm a wanderer (but I'm choosing to stay in New Hampshire for the next few years). I enjoy music, reading, movies, and good conversation. Oh...did I forget to say that I love traveling? Well, that's a big thing for me. I've been to about 15 countries.

I moved to Manchester in July 2007. I'm involved with all sorts of activities around town. During the work week, my position as a University webdesigner keeps me somewhat busy.

From 2003-2006, I was in Egypt teaching English. I learned a lot from my 4 years in Egypt, but now I'm ready to see what life is like in the US again and settle down here for awhile. New state, new job, new people...

People take life too seriously sometimes. I try to remind myself of that when I'm getting worked up over some little, unimportant detail.

What I’m doing with my life

Trying to build community around me. People seem so isolated and I just can't understand it sometimes...

This summer, I've been doing a bit of traveling...
Chicago for a conference and then New Orleans for a service trip, and a bit of fun.

I'm back to doing web design/marketing (after 4 years of teaching ESL). I don't mind the term "geek" but I'd rather be a "marketing geek" than a "web geek". *laugh*

I’m really good at

-- Giving opinions/answers that sound really good. Too bad I'm never sure if I quite believe what I'm saying! *laugh*

-- Teaching, I think. Well, at least my students never complained too loudly! *smile*

-- Friendships. I like surrounding myself with a variety of different types of people. Being around only people who are the same as me is boring.

-- Listening. I usually try to ask lots of questions and understand situations before I start tossing my opinions around.

The first things people usually notice about me

...is that I'm quiet... But they're wrong -- I'm quiet the first time people meet me, but that's b/c I like to sit back and watch before opening up to people. In fact, after I start talking, most people just want me to shut up!!!!

Physically, it's my eyes. Well, actually my eyelashes. They're really long and many of my female friends are envious of them!

Sometimes people notice my eyes, too. That's b/c they change colors. When they go vivid green, people accuse me of wearing colored contacts!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books -- Anything about Egypt, especially the architecture and [history] of Cairo, books by Naguib Mahfouze, Charles Dickens, Eats Shoots and Leaves (a humorous book about punctuation -- really!), The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

Movies -- Princess Bride, anything Mel Brooks, Fight Club, Star Wars, Monty Python, Mojave Moon, Star Trek, Full Metal Jacket, Snatch, Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, The Full Monty, Trainspotting

Music -- Fleetwood Mac, Jack Johnson, Neil Young, and most anything with talented musicians

Foods -- Mexican is at the top of my list! I also enjoy mango juice!

The six things I could never do without

Traveling, intelligent conversation, music, sunshine and time at the beach, my family, and religion make up that list.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How I can help make the world a better place. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for the answer to that question and some guidance on what area(s) to focus on.

The environment and how I can reduce the amount of resources/energy I use.

I also think about when the Chicago Cubs will ever win the World Series again!

On a typical Friday night I am

...somewhere different than the week before. If I'm around Manchester, then possibly at Strange Brew.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

My job involves communicating but sometimes I'm not very good at it in my personal life when I first meet new people.
