I am geeky, cheerful, and laid back.
My Self-Summary
Like the adjectives say. I'm a geek who runs Linux on his computer,
runs a tabletop roleplaying game for some friends, likes science
fiction, and four times a year heads out to the woods dressed in a
funny costume in order to hit people over the head with padded
sticks while pretending to be someone else. That being said, I also
like a lot of outdoor things like
hiking,
sailing, and
skiing.
Personality-wise, I'm the sort of friendly introvert who likes
meeting new people and learning about them but who starts to get
worn out after person number five at one sitting.
Sometimes people make scurrilous accusations about me being
"mellow." Thats not bad for a first impression but there's also a
big part of me that wants to be challenged and to meet that
challenge. Its fun to hike Mt. Washington when its nice out and the
view is certainly great, but its hiking the mountain in the pouring
rain that really makes you feel like you've done something
interesting.
Oh, and I try to live my life as openly as I can manage. I'm not in
the habit of volunteering uncomfortable truths, but be warned that
if you ask a question I'll probably give an answer.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm living in Porter Square right now, enjoying the car-free
lifestyle. Between public transit and my bike I'm pretty much set,
though I'm glad ZipCar is there for me when I need it. I'm
currently working at Lincoln Labs analyzing radars for the
government. It has its upsides, but I'm not sure I'll stay there
forever.
I’m really good at
I can talk intelligently about a pretty wide range of stuff, at
least well enough to fake it.
Also, I can always act calm and collected even if I'm shaking with
fear or literally seeing red with anger.
Finally, I can wiggle each of my eyebrows independently. Be amazed!
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I read a good amount, usually at least a book a week, and nowadays
I seem to be alternating between
Science Fiction or
Fantasy and various sorts
of non-fiction. History, politics, economics, philosophy, that sort
of thing. As I write this I just finished reading Altered Carbon
and I'm starting in on The Design of Everyday Things. Don't ask for
a short list of favorite books or even authors, I don't think I can
manage it.
My taste in movies is a bit more conventional, but I'm also sort of
into anime so it evens out. Generally I spend more time/money on
books though
I've got a pretty eclectic collection of music. One the one hand I
like some standard stuff like the Beatles and on the other I really
love some more unusual things like QNTAL. Mostly if I don't like a
piece of music its because I think its boring.
For food I tend to like spicy things particularly.
And something that probably belongs here though it isn't in the
list: I'm a big fan of German
board games. Puerto Rico and any
other that involve building an economy especially.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How things work. Devices, societies, whatever.
On a typical Friday night I am
Going out to dinner with a bunch of friends if nothing else is
happening.
You should message me if
Its a free Internet and I try to respond to any serious messages I
get.
Because its come up a few times, I'm ok with polyamory in general
but thats not really what I'm looking for in the long term. So if
your status is 'available' just pretend that mine says "Looking
For: New friends, Short-term dating" and we'll be on the same page.
