My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm people. Yeah, a member of the set of all people. It took me a long time to realize that, I thought maybe I was a brain floating in a jar. That may still be my ambition. But for now I'm made of flesh like the rest of you.

I am epicurean, spacy, and lazy
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a computer programmer. I dropped out of the job market from about 2001 to 2003 to be a writer, and it was awesome except that I didn't write anything. Now I'm at Google, and I like it. It's the first time I've still liked a company after being there for (more than) a year. People are smart, problems are hard, and it feels like what I'm doing matters.

So I'm doing that, working on confidential things I probably couldn't explain even if I were allowed to talk about them, and I write a couple short stories a year and every November I dump 50000 more words into my awesome completely incoherent novel-in-progress. It's hard to summarize. I'll just say that I think it's going somewhere interesting and of the two other people who've made it all the way through, one completely agrees.

During the unemployed period I spent two months at a Spanish immersion school in Puebla, Mexico.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Eating food, drinking beer, pretending to be smart, sitting on my ass, not being able to think of positive things to say.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I can hold my liquor and continue to speak in an irritatingly precise way.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

(books) Lolita (not like that), Infinite Jest, The Martian Chronicles, The Man Who Was Thursday, Neverness, The Sound and the Fury, The Thin Man, Dune sometimes, The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Blind Worm. Yeah, that's right, The Blind Worm. You've never heard of it, and objectively, well, it's not very good. But it's there in my favorites anyway. The short stories of George Saunders, Nabokov, Borges.

(movies) Man, the Blind Worm sure is good. But it's not a movie. Pickup on South Street was pretty excellent, I saw it in film class. Love Me If You Dare was my favorite for five days till I watched it again sober, but it's still way up there. Lost in Translation.

(music) Tool, KMFDM, VNV Nation, Johnny Cash, King Crimson, Air, The Mars Volta.

(food) Foie gras. Gorgonzola with honeycomb.

(tv, not that you asked) Buffy the Vampire Slayer, appreciation declining though towards the end. Angel, but really only seasons 4 and 5. Veronica Mars. Sopranos. Firefly. Battlestar Galactica, both versions, but the new one unironically. Freaks and Geeks. Twin Peaks. Arrested Development. The Office. Weeds.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Scripted television dramas, an apartment in which my parents don't live, time to myself. And three other things.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
What the soul would look like under a microscope.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Eating in a restaurant and staring off into space.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I grieved like the stereotypical old Italian woman after my cat died.
