My Self-Summary
I talk a lot. I love to read. I have too many pets. I'm amused by short declarative sentences. Sometimes I paint, make weird electronic music, write terrible poetry, and other nonsense. Much to my chagrin, I live a grown-up and mostly-respectable life, my irresponsibility notwithstanding. I don't know where I'd be without Wikipedia -- other than possibly living in a library. I giggle-my-fool-head-off. I think spooky is fun, I sleep too much, and I've never been to New York.
OKCupid insists that I'm available, but I promise I'm not -- unless you're the kind of young lady who digs married couples, in which case, I'm very available. (i.e. "Matched pair, not packaged for individual resale.") But that's not the only reason I'm here.
What I’m doing with my life
I have three bad dogs and a wonderful husband who just started work as a real-live-grown-up lawyer. I am in law school myself, and I'm having fun so far!
I’m really good at
I'm really bad at: keeping a calendar, cleaning my car.
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
FAVORITE MOVIES: I HEART Wes Anderson. I enjoy British gangster flicks, zombies, and 80's kids movies as much as the next gal. "No Country for Old Men" is the most recent addition to my best-of-all-time list, along with most other Coen Brothers' movies. Blazing Saddles, Full Metal Jacket, The Professional, many more... I have a deeply guilty love of the movie "Freeway."
FAVORITE MUSIC: Things made with synthesizers. Things made with acoustic guitars. Not a big fan of rock, unless there is a qualifier (such as "punk-".) Definitely a fan of New/Dark Wave and noise. Also fond of Blues & Bluegrass, if the mood is right.
FAVORITE BOOKS:
(This list is long because it's also a suggested reading list. Feel free to skip it if you don't really love to read.)
Grendel, John Gardner
Les Enfants Terribles, Jean Cocteau
Being Peace, Thich Nhat Hanh
Down & Out in Paris & London, George Orwell
Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer
The Winter of Our Discontent, John Steinbeck
The Corrections, Jonathan Franzen
Exquisite Corpse, Poppy Z. Brite
The Ecstatic, Victor LaValle
Another Bullshit Night in Suck City, Nick Flynn
Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy
House of Leaves, Mark Z. Danielewski
A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving
Les Miserables, Victor Hugo
Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card
Most of Phillip K Dick, Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams et al... also most of Al Franken, Bill Maher, George Carlin, et al.
Neil Gaiman makes me have pretty dreams.
FAVORITE COMEDIANS: Eddie Izzard, Dave Chapelle, David Cross, Mitch Hedberg, Zach Galifianakis, Flight of the Concords; my friends are all pretty funny, too.
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
On a typical Friday night I am
I liked Numbers on Fridays, but I'm on hiatus from clubs. Most Friday nights, I'm thinking about Saturday. Maybe I could use a new scene.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Cute, interesting people make me very shy or very assertive, depending on factors like how much they smile at me and how many drinks I've consumed. Hopefully you think that's at least a little charming.
You should message me if
If you want to be pals. If you think it's cute that I'm sort of nerdy. If you don't mind that I talk and laugh too much, or that sometimes I lose language totally to the ether. Or if you are the aforementioned young lady in search of diversion -- in which case you should not just message me, you should message me NOW. ;P
You should NOT message me if you are a man looking for more than friendship, or anyone with the phrases "Hey, at least I'm honest!" or "I'm a conundrum!" in your profile. The first suggests you are a bad person, and the second suggests you will bore me.
