My self-summary
I tend to be thoughtful and self-reflective, I don't watch sports, I don't even have a cable TV subscription. I'm a bit of a nerd, building computers, teaching myself new design tricks, and watching shows I download off of peer-to-peer networks or find on Netflix. At the same time, I like to get outdoors. I walk in the woods, I canoe and kayak, I like to camp a couple of times a summer. I read a lot, and I'm into photography, both making my own and checking out other people's work at galleries and art shows. I like going to art museums and book stores. I like trying new foods. I like seeing new places. When I was 18 I left home and lived in Memphis, San Diego, and Portland, Maine before returning home to go to school. I have two degrees in literature and I'm a self-taught web designer and photographer. I've been to England and Ireland and would like to travel abroad more, the sooner, the better! I'm funny, except when filling out these damn things. I'm irreverent. I'd rather ask for forgiveness than permission. I eschew the band wagon--I ain't gettin' on it. I'm liberal yet pragmatic. I'm not a neat freak, but I'm not a slob. I use emoticons when writing because my irreverence and sometimes dry sense of humor doesn't translate well in text. I'm liberal, artistic, intelligent and eclectic.
What I’m doing with my life
I work for the state designing and administrating web sites and doing other tech and design stuff. I also do some photography and writing for them. I have a little girl--she's nine--and she's a big part of my life. I share custody with my ex, with whom I have an amicable relationship. I like to travel and take photographs. I also have a wood shop and like to make artsy stuff. I play (and sometimes build) ukuleles. And I'm waiting on you to come form a duet with me. Hopefully you can sing better than me.
I’m really good at
Photography, web design, solving tech (and lately home improvement) issues, and eating tapioca pudding.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my distinguished good looks and beautiful blue eyes...or possibly the fact that I shave my head. Yes, if you're one of those ladies who absolutely must have a man with a full head of hair, you'll want to pass on by.

I'm told I look younger in person than I do in my photos. I feel young, and optimistic, and I think that comes through. Given a comfortable setting I have a gleam in my eye and I laugh and joke around a lot.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: most anything by Vonnegut, Neil Gaiman, and Ursula Le Guin. Richard Kadrey's Sandman Slim novels have been a bit of obsession for me lately. Can't wait for the next one, due out this summer. Just read The Golem and the Jinni and loved it. Best book I've read in years.

Movies: anything by Terry Gilliam, Hotfuzz, Sean of the Dead, Zombieland, Lost in Translation (possibly my favorite movie, right there), and many more that aren't coming to mind. I even enjoy an occasional chick flick, too. And anything by Studio Ghibli! Recently watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, thought it would be stupid, but ended up loving it.

As far as music goes, I like a wide range of material, from Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd to St. Germain, Beck, Death Cab for Cutie, Mumford & Sons and lately the Lumineers, just to name a few. Oh, and let's not forget in-your-face Irish punk rock from Flogging Molly and The Drop Kick Murphys.

I like all kinds of food, too, including but not limited to sushi, middle eastern, and bacon cheese burgers (though, I don't eat much red meat these days)! And dim sum! Dim Sum for Everyone!

For TV, Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, True Blood, Lost Girl, Supernatural, and 30 Rock makes me laugh--I honestly don't watch a lot of TV, downloading most of my shows off peer to peer networks or getting them from Netflix and watching a little here and there when time provides. (I've been addicted to Sons of Anarchy on Netflix as of late!)
The six things I could never do without
I guess if I had to pack up and leave and could only take six things it would be my daughter, my camera gear, my ukulele and my tablet/cellphone (and toothbrush and clothes!). Oh, and books! I need books in my life. In fact, the aforementioned tablet is full of them, but I still love an actual book and the smell of book stores and libraries.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
It changes. One of my undergrad majors was in philosophy, so you might not want to get me started. Lately I've been reading up on spirituality (of the non-religious variety). Right now I'm reading a book on Buddhism by Thich Naht Hahn. I suppose the one thing I continuously return to is personal growth.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with my little girl. Sometimes I like to shoot pool with friends. Dinner, a movie and a trip to the bookstore appeals to me as a good date. I like to entertain or go to friends' and be entertained.
