My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I love cooking, dancing and running my start-up business. I’m a music nerd who can’t get enough jazz and blues. I’m a foodie who adores the amazing variety New York has to offer. And I’m a news junkie who spends Sundays with The Economist and every other day reading about politics (not a fan of the GOP).
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Born and raised in London, I moved to New York in February. I signed a lease in September, and I don’t have a return ticket.

I started a small company that produces proofreading software. It's one of the most exciting things I've ever done, but when I go out, I switch the topic away from work quickly (do you really want to hear about correct hyphenation?). Mostly that means talking about music, dancing, cooking, food, cocktails and movies.

I do a lot of dancing, especially swing dancing. I’m usually out dancing twice per week. In London I ran a monthly blues night with a dance class and live music. In New York I go and see a lot of live music (Mona's, St Mazie, Pegu, Terra Blues, and others).

And I do a lot of cooking. It’s not easy in my little, Chelsea kitchen, but I persist. I’m always on the lookout for ingredients and take an immediate liking to anyone who has advice on good produce.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Remembering little details. Mixing cocktails. Witty banter.

I'm also an expert trip planner. The last adventure was live music in Nawlins. Before that it was whisky tasting in Scotland.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I’m skinny, I'm smart (one degree at an Ivy, the other in Cambridge), and I have an opinion on almost everything (including the fact that those degrees don't mean much really).

Everyone in New York says I sound British. Everyone in London says I sound American. And people from pretty much everywhere say that I eat a lot of bagels.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Movies
Before Sunrise, Three Colors, Grand Illusion, almost anything by Almodóvar, Rohmer, Wilder or Buster Keaton (and anything with Fred & Ginger or Cary Grant). Recently: Boyhood.

Books
The Little Prince, Watching the English, Generation X, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Love in the Time of Cholera.

TV
Treme (still can’t believe it got cancelled), Breaking Bad, The Wire, Twin Peaks, West Wing, Seinfeld.

Music
Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Townes Van Zandt, Warren Zevon, Allen Toussaint, Tom Waits, Billie Holiday, Lightnin' Hopkins, and almost anything that came out on Chess Records or Stax. I also suffer from a minor obsession with Sam Cooke.

Food
Too many to list, but especially Vietnamese, Korean, Mexican, barbeque and deli food. I'm on a quest to find the best bagel in New York (though I doubt anything can beat the mini-everything bagel at Absolute).

Other
I'm addicted to This American Life and The Moth. I just told my first story at a Moth Storyslam, and I'm told my NPR nerd-cred has gone up enormously as a result!

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The top five cocktails I've ever had in my life.

Also, my background is in international development and I'm very political. I really want to do something that will help make sure the next President is a Democrat (whoever she may be).
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Usually swing dancing, or at a blues / soul gig, or cooking dinner for friends. You’ll find me at Terra Blues, Mona’s, The Back Room, Flatiron Lounge, the Brandy Library and a few others.

In truth, some nights I have to work too. I’m my own boss, but guilt kicks in if I haven’t done enough work during the day.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Given a choice between craft beer and Coors Light, I pick Coors Light every time. If we're in a nice bar, I won't make you order it for me!

You're quick witted and like good banter. I’m looking for someone who likes to challenge and be challenged.

I go for strong women who can express themselves. If you haven't written anything in your profile, it isn't going to work.
