My self-summary
I'm passionate about cooking, dancing and running my start-up software business. When I'm not working, I spend my time seeking out amazing produce (foodie), going to see live music, and reading current affairs (NYT and The Economist). My academic background was in international development, and I still carry a burning desire to make a difference in the world.
What I’m doing with my life
Born and raised in London, I've been here for two years. I'm half-American and I don’t have a return ticket.

I design software that is used by professional editors around the world. Running that business is one of the most exciting things I've ever done. However, when I go out, I switch the topic away from work quickly (unless you really want to hear about automatic correction of Oxford commas). Mostly that means talking about music, dancing, cooking, food, cocktails and movies.

Away from work, I do a lot of dancing (especially swing dancing) and I see a lot of live music (especially the band nights at Mona's, St Mazie, and Pegu). I also do a lot of cooking. I’m always on the lookout for ingredients and take an immediate liking to anyone who has advice on good produce.
I’m really good at
Remembering little details. Mixing cocktails. Witty banter.

Also planning trips. The last adventure was live music in Nawlins. Before that it was whisky tasting in Scotland.
The first things people usually notice about me
British accent.

Also I’m skinny, I'm smart (one degree at an Ivy, the other in Cambridge), and I have an opinion on almost everything (including the fact that those degrees don't mean much really).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Movies
Before Sunrise, Three Colors, Grand Illusion, almost anything by Almodóvar, Rohmer, Wilder or Buster Keaton (and anything with Fred & Ginger or Cary Grant). Recently: Boyhood.

Books
The Little Prince, Generation X, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Watching the English, Love in the Time of Cholera. Recently: The Song Machine.

TV
Treme, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Twin Peaks, West Wing, Seinfeld, Transparent, House of Cards. Recently: Master of None.

Music
Otis, Sam, Billie, Joni, Nina, Stevie, and Miles. Also Townes Van Zandt, Warren Zevon, Allen Toussaint, Tom Waits, Lightnin' Hopkins, and almost anything that came out on Chess Records or Stax. Recently: Punch Brothers and GoGo Penguin.

Food
Too many to list, but especially Vietnamese, Korean, Mexican, barbeque and deli food. I'm on a quest to find the best bagel in New York (though I doubt anything can beat the mini-everything bagel at Absolute).

Other
Since moving here, I've been introduced to NPR. I'm addicted to This American Life and The Moth (and Serial when it was on). I told my first story at a Moth StorySLAM last year, and I've told two more since then. What story would you tell?
The six things I could never do without
Friends/family
Dance shoes
Participant-observation
Chapstick
Music
Harney & Sons
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The top five cocktails I've ever had in my life.

Also, my background is in international development and I'm very into politics. I'd love to do something that would help make sure the next President is a Democrat (whoever she may be).
On a typical Friday night I am
Touring cocktail bars, swing dancing, at a blues/soul gig, or cooking dinner for friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a nerd, and proud of it!
You should message me if
You're quick witted and like good banter. I’m looking for someone who likes to challenge and be challenged.

I go for strong women who can express themselves (usually feminists). If you haven't written anything in your profile, it isn't going to work.
