This section might be a bit long and boring...but it'll give you a
better idea about me. Feel free to skip it and cut to the
Music? I have an insatiable appetite to hear new music. Love
listening to it. The main ingredients I look for are for it to push
the boundaries in some way, and to have a longer shelf life than
To give you an idea: Metallica, Bjork, Sigur Ros, Talking Heads,
Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Queen, Underworld, Leftfield, The Orb, The
Young Gods, Lemon Jelly, Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Johnny Cash,
Rammstein, NIN, Shihad, Iron Maiden, Tangerine Dream, Ministry,
Faith No More, Cliff Martinez, RHCP, U2, Dub Syndicate all tend to
appear on my playlist regularly. But don't worry as I also know
what headphones are for.
I have been called a chain reader. I take that as a complement.
Primarily science and history but sometimes travel or sci fi. Fave
authors include Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan, Jared Diamond, Brian
Cox, Bill Bryson, Iain (M) Banks, Antony Beevor, Simon Singh, Nick
Lane and Matt Ridley (except his latest).
Love foreign films especially Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Brazillian
and European . Intelligent Hollywood movies (Coen brothers, Wes
Anderson, Aronofsky) and sometimes watch brainless Hollywood cheese
when the mood takes me.
I have a wee obsession with the movie Baraka. I am gradually
working my way around the world visiting the locations used in it.
Doing quite well so far.
TV, love science & history documentaries. Anything with
Attenborough is a must. As is Louis Theroux and anything with Brian
Cox gazing wistfully into the distance from atop a mountain.
Anything with Cox in it is great. Wait a sec, that was a bad choice
Breaking Bad has recently ruled my life, and am now in withdrawals
from it since it has finished...But I do alleviate the withdrawals
by watching Breaking Bad special features...damn...I really should
go outside and play a bit in the fresh air.
Also like Big Bang Theory, Top Gear, Sherlock, Man Vs Wild
and...dare I say it...drum roll please...Star Trek!
Food? Well, anything with chilli in it is great, the hotter the
better. Even to the point where I need to stick the toilet paper in
the fridge to get that cooling sensation the next morning. But
spiciness is definitely not a pre-requisite. After all, I don't
think chilli ice cream would be good....or maybe it would? Now
there's an idea....
Anyhow, I love trying food from around the world. I'll give almost
anything a try...but I haven't plucked up the courage to do the
insect thing yet. One day I'll man up and do it. One day...Sounds a
bit like I am saying that one day I'll fix my procrastination
issues, but really, I will try it. Seriously.
Well, I have prattled on here. But perhaps it does show you my
interests and tastes are fairly broad?
