I am piercing, vivacious, and resonant.
My Self-Summary
I am an exiled dreamer now lost in this world trying to make it his
own. I live in a perpetual state of confusion as I try to push
forward towards some understanding of the world around me.
Throughout my journey for understanding I seek to help out others
in their lives and give them a chance to make fulfilling choices. I
think it is for these reasons that I am studying Sociology in
college right now; it gives me the tools and base knowledge to
reflect on the nature and conditions of society in addition to
providing me the academic counterpart to the activism and volunteer
work I enjoy being a part of. Between my volunteer work, my friends
and my course load for my degree my life is very fast paced and I
am kept constantly busy. But I think I enjoy being kept busy; life
just wouldn't be that fun or interesting unless you were pressed
for time to do everything and are forced to make the most out of
every minute available. Some idiosyncratic things about me include
my love for all things of the fantasy genre. I'm an obsessive
reader and fantasy books are my favorite. I have been reputed to
not living completely in this world with the far off stare I tend
to have often on my face. But when I am paying attention to this
world I tend to be focused though and the intensity of my gaze can
be found in the eye contact I make with someone when I speak to
them or to an audience as a whole. Another random, closing fact
about me is that I walk on my toes whenever I am nervous or
preoccupied by something in my immediate surroundings.
What I’m doing with my life
At the moment I'm in the midst of a graduate program in sociology
at UC Berkeley. It's been pretty intense but I think I'm hanging so
far and somewhat maintaining balance between school and spending
time with friends and family. Aside from that, in my spare time I
write stories in my head that will probably never make it to paper
or at least not until I'm done with my education and I have the
time to; so in short, close to never.
I’m really good at
Between years of over-nighters spent writing papers, organizing big
social events for work and volunteering at a moments notice, I
think I'm pretty good at working under pressure and split-second
organizing. I'm also pretty good at remembering my dreams.
The first things people usually notice about me
People tend to tell me the first thing they notice are my eyes and
I don't know if this is a line or not but it is what I'm told. My
eyes tend to flicker and lights seem to dance within them or so
I've been told by someone with a more flattering and poetic way of
putting it. But then, I've also been told that I have a really
scary, piercing glare by other friends so guess either way
attention is on the eyes.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: I am major reader. I have read quite a bit of classic
(read:old)literature and more social theory books than I care to
dwell on. But then, my first reading love is fantasy with my
current addiction being children's fantasy with the last series I
read being The His Dark Materials Trilogy. I've been getting a bit
more into comics/graphics novels lately with my favorites including
the Sandman and Lucifer series
Movies: I like movies but don't see as many of them as my friends
think I should. For a long time the main way I saw movies was in my
gender studies classes in undergrad so I've picked up a habit of
over analyzing movies, which can be both enjoyable and frustrating
to varying degrees depending on the movie. Some of my favorite
movies are Monty Python's Life of Brian, Sunset Boulevard, and
Clerks.
Music: I like a variety but focusing mostly on rock music and then
focusing mostly on punk. My favorite all time band is Bad
Religion.
Food: I love food, both cooking it and eating it. However, I am a
vegetarian so you can pretty much be assured anything I am cooking
or eating does not have meat or dead animal in it. Aside from that
there are not very many things in the food category I do not like
and the only ones that come to mind are mayo and ranch dressing.
The six things I could never do without
In no particular order: Contact lenses; Angsty music; Computer;
Access to new reading; Imaginary worlds in my head; Friends/Family.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Other worlds that seem to exist in my head and how I live in those
realities compared to how I live in this one.
On a typical Friday night I am
Fridays vary with the chaos of my school schedule. But in my not
school time usually I'm hanging out with friends and causing a
shenanigan or two, since they usually come in plural. Or I'm in a
basement with them playing pretend with dice and paper.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
That I'm pretty sure I went crazy about four years ago.
You should message me if
If you have any interest in talking. I'm a bit scatterbrained
sometimes when it comes to talking online but I'm almost always
willing to give it a go.
