I love a new challenge. I ask a lot of questions, and I am never satisfied until I have a good conceptual understanding of how something works. I pick up on other people's emotions easily. I try to keep an open mind about the world and my place in it.

I love to travel. I love to be on the move. I am happiest when I am going somewhere I haven't been before.

I like to be active and play sports when I have time. My favorites include (but not limited to) softball, football, hockey, and tennis. I am admittedly terrible at golfing, but I still try it anyways. I love to hike, camp, backpack, kayak, canoe - and someday I hope to have enough money so that I can better support these hobbies (and try new ones). I have recently been learning how to dance - and I enjoy it, but that sort of grace doesn't seem to come naturally to me!

I like to fix things, build things, create things - and I am drawn to people who have the same interest in working with their hands.

I am generally a pretty happy and easy-going person. I have a slightly quirky sense of humor - some people have described it as dry. I am usually really amused by absurdities.

I work to acknowledge the good in any situation I'm in, even if it has caused me pain. I'm often inspired by the beauty I observe in day to day life - a pleasant breeze, chirping crickets, a cute couple, children being children.

Honesty is very important to me, to the extent that I believe that hiding my intentions is the same as a lie. I am very protective of my family and friends. I try very hard to keep my promises and fulfill my responsibilties, but of course, I fail from time to time, and I'm pretty accepting of others who do also.

Right now I'm trying to finish a PhD in seismology. I am hoping to finish soon and find a job that will allow me to see a little more of the world before I settle down. Even though I try to plan my future, I usually end up going in whatever direction the wind takes me. Usually it sends me in the right direction.

Food: mmm... I am not crazy about Thai curry (the kind that has coconut in it). I do not like mayonnaise. I love most foods with garlic!, tomatoes, peppers. I love raspberries. I don't eat a lot of meat, but I am not a vegetarian. I usually try everything once (or twice) though.

Books: I used to only like books that made me think, now I have started liking books for entertainment. I like reading some poetry too.

Movies: I do not like horror films, anything that is too grotesque or gory. I have a pretty active imagination, so I get nightmares from these (geez, I sound like a five year old). I think that The Count of Monte Cristo might be my new favorite.

Music: Almost anything. I am not much a fan of pop country, violent rap music, or music with lyrics that sound like they were written by a 2 year old. I really like music that conveys a strong emotion, and I have a special place in my heart for blue-sy music.
