My self-summary
"The less you bet the more you lose when you win." ~ my grandpa, Bud

I am internally wired as artist. It's who I am, for better or worse. I love creative people, and stupid jokes. Most of my clothes have paint on them. I am super close to my parents, but they live 2,210 miles away. The walls of my apartment are covered with my own art. We will really get along if the thought of posing for me while I paint you sounds exciting, because basically whoever I date winds up on canvas at least once. When it comes to my family, I hit the jackpot! However, the impression they left makes me unable to settle for less than what I witnessed growing up. I'm okay alone, but I want better. I'm best one-on-one. I love spatial awareness, intelligence, and common sense. My first word was, "Light."

I got my undergraduate degree in creative writing from Miami University in Ohio. After that, I travelled Europe. Lived in London for a bit. Came back to the States. Went to acting conservatory at The Neighborhood Playhouse, and art school at The Art Students' League, both in New York City. I have had the good fortune to act on Broadway, and to sell paintings to people who know what they're buying.

In case you feel like looking at some paintings, my Instagram is: erikhoug

When walking with a woman, I walk on the side closest to the street. My dad taught me that when I was little.
What I’m doing with my life
"You're trying to fit 10 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag." ~Dad
I’m really good at
Reading people. Choosing friends.

Capturing the essence of a person on canvas.

Sports.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have this aura around me when I walk into a room that says, "Why did I just walk in here?.... I know I walked in here for a reason...."

The six things I could never do without
My paintings - I hate parting with them even for lots of money
A small group of trusted friends
My family
Afternoon naps
Sparky puppy doggie
Kiwi cat
I spend a lot of time thinking about
-The exhilaration that accompanies a pleasant surprise

-When almost EVERY woman's profile I read practically screams, "PLEASE, no selfies in the bathroom mirror with your shirt off!", why do men continue to do this?!?!

-It seems like there are more yoga instructors than people doing yoga.

-And I'm still puzzled by the endless pics of women wearing fake mustaches. No offense to any of the women who have these up, but I don't want to think about what you would look like as a dude.
On a typical Friday night I am
in bed marathon-streaming movies/tv series with my dog under my left arm and my cat on my chest.

then, at 11:00, I go to work.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
In the interest of full disclosure, I am actually 41 years old. I am merely expanding the number of search ranges into which I fall. But I am copping to it here. I view okcupid as a social experiment, so I am conducting one of my own. Enough said about that.

My first crush was on Debbie Harry, also Olivia Newton John from Grease, also the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

I am beginning to enjoy writing total strangers at all hours of the day and night, comfortable in the knowledge that my messages will probably never get read anyway. It gives me my creative writing fix.
