My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi, hola, ni hao, elen síla lúmenn' omentielvo, etc.!

My name's Eric. I'm a writer, philosopher, teacher, traveler, science-buff, linguist, artist, poet, and dreamer. That's me in a tweet, I guess :)

Life is too damn short not to live boldly, think deeply, and love passionately.

To love, to know, to create: these are the goals that breathe meaning into my existence. Oh, and to consume ungodly amounts of Reese's peanut butter cups, too.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
What a question! Some quick highlights: in the past seven years, I lived in Mexico, Spain, and China, studying foreign languages and literature, teaching English, and soaking up as much of the world as I could. I'm always craving a new adventure...a bit like Bilbo the hobbit, I guess (minus the hairy feet).

After spending a year writing a fantasy novel, I moved to California from the frigid, northern lands of House Stark (Washington State, I mean). I taught reading and math to kids with special learning needs, substituted as a high school Spanish teacher, translated a document from English to Spanish, tutored high schoolers in the SAT, and edited a philosophical manuscript on ethics and consciousness.

I just moved to the Bay Area for grad school in philosophy. I'm interested in what evolutionary biology and neuroscience can tell us about ethics. Planning to be a groovy prof one day. After a lot of self-exploration, I have a very clear idea now of what I want out of life. I'm excited to make a friend here and share some adventures...maybe with you? ;)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Writing, editing, philosophizing (bullshitting included), foreign languages, working with kids, soccer, downhill skiing, track, tennis, juggling, singing (so I've been told), being creative, cooking Chicken Divan, and ping pong (I have an official paddle from China - so watch out!).
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Blue eyes, curly hair, intelligence, creativity, and maturity despite a youthful appearance - I discovered the fountain of youth in Mexico, you see. (No, I'm not telling where)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: I like all genres, but I have a special love for imaginative lit like fantasy and science fiction. My favorite book is probably "Ender's Game" and my favorite authors include Ray Bradbury and Ursula K. LeGuin. I'm a pretty hard-core Harry Potter fan; I stop just short of buying a costume (actually, that's a lie - I do have a costume). I also like reading scientific and philosophical works: anything by Plato, Hume, Emerson, Nietzsche, Einstein, Loren Eiseley, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, Richard Feynman, Stephen Hawking, and Frans de Waal. I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch.

Movies: As with books, I like films with an imaginative edge, like "The Matrix," "Inception," "The Truman Show," the "Lord of the Rings" series, the "Back to the Future" series, and the original Star Wars trilogy (not the plotless special-effects fart that came afterwards).

Shows: "Star Trek: The Next Generation," "Lost," "Game of Thrones," "Revenge," and "The Office" (American version) are the main ones I've followed. I don't watch much TV, actually. Do TED talks count?

Music: I have a wide variety of musical tastes, and I'm always open to hearing something new. Currently, I'm digging Imagine Dragons, Lorde, and OneRepublic. It's refreshing to hear songs about experiences and emotions besides infatuation and heartbreak. If aliens heard our music, they might wonder if we ever thought about anything else! Other favorite bands/singers: U2, Journey, Elton John, Billy Joel, the Beatles, Enya, Josh Groban, James Blunt, Enrique Iglesias, Katy Perry, Era, and Sigur Ros, to name a few. Like I said: a wide variety!

Food: I'm a very flexible and adventurous eater. Nearly everything Italian, Mexican, Chinese, or Indian will make my mouth water. Unfortunately, I've inherited a sweet tooth, but I try to resist temptation as much as possible and eat healthily (note: I said "try").
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. An overwhelming passion or "bliss"
2. Love of all kinds
3. Family (cliche, but true)
4. Friends (also cliche, but true)
5. Eyes
6. Hands
(7. A brain to know the difference between six and seven)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
*How I can achieve the most good and happiness during my short pilgrimage through this universe
*The meaning of life (or whether there is any meaning besides the number 42)
*Ideas for new books, poems, or short stories
*Big questions about the universe (How did it begin? Did it really begin? Are there other universes? Why did Snape have to die?)
*And, of course, women (the most mind-boggling subject of all - just ask Stephen Hawking)
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Stocking up for the zombie apocalypse.

No, just hanging out with friends or family, or Skyping with friends far away, or dinking around on this site.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
A previous girlfriend got me hooked for a while on a soap opera. (No, I won't admit which soap opera)
