My self-summary
How to summarize oneself... A list of adjectives? A description of things that I do? Statistics? Perhaps a combination of these?

Well, let's give it a try.

I'm currently working on my Ph.D. and trying to survive that awkward period in one's life known as grad school. I got my master's degree at CU-Bulder and am now attending Indiana University. Between undergraduate and graduate school I spent six and a half months overseas traveling for fun. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I think I caught the traveling bug so I expect to be spending a lot of time staring wistfully at maps and planning trips I won't be able to take for years.

For fun I like to go to concerts, hike, run, and read... you know, just like everyone else on OKCupid. Other than that I play video games, board games, SCUBA dive, ski, and try out new things. Such new things include kayaking, sky diving, and flamenco dancing, all of which I would really like to do more of. I tend to think of myself as fairly active and I like to be outside.

I also just noticed that under the "Personality" tab I'm listed as "More Giving" but "Less Kind"... not quite sure what to make of that.
What I’m doing with my life
Mostly I'm just trying to stay sane as I try and finish up my degree. This involves planning overseas trips for when I get some free time/disposable income and having philosophical discussions with my dog. He seems pretty happy most of the time, so I figure he has to be doing something right.
I’m really good at
appreciating a beautiful day... and computers... and finding a good time.
The first things people usually notice about me
is "Hey, that is a really pretty golden retriever you have there!"

Movies: Space Balls, M.A.S.H., The Matrix (only the first one), Serenity, Jeremiah Johnson, Dogma, Shortbus, The Professional, The Secret of Kells, Better Luck Tomorrow, Brick, High Fidelity, Pushing Tin

TV: Firefly, Dexter, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Castle (mainly for Nathan Fillion), The Fades, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, The West Wing, Game of Thrones

Food: Just about anything. I love spicy foods and anything that has a lot of flavor. I'll try just about anything once, minus most bugs and Rocky Mountain Oysters. I love to cook and think that doing so is way better than eating a packet of Ramen noodles. I ate too many of them already anyway.
The six things I could never do without
Internet, a well stocked library, a steady supply of new people, a smorgasbord of different kinds of foods, my friends, and something to do outdoors.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
whatever has caught my attention recently. I daydream like a hummingbird eats.
On a typical Friday night I am
hanging out with my friends, doing whatever sounds like a good time.

These typically include arguing about books/politics/music/science, going to concerts and other live performances (I have been known to go see an opera or ballet from time to time), having dinner parties, and hanging out and drinking some beers (man do I love all of the microbreweries in Colorado).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
is that I STILL like Fraggle Rock and Animaniacs.
