8 I Did fly F4s off CVA-64 as Naval Aviator in Vietnam in the '60s, then Did help found Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW);

With friends -- couples, singles, both sexes, young & old -- at a restaurant or rally, play or movie, concert or club, lecture or party.

That's about it unless I'm traveling out of town or overseas.

But a Saturday night, though, might be substantially different.
With all day to shop & prepare to host a dinner party, we two might start with icy Cristal, some still-sizzling bruschetta and a succulent caprese salad (buffalo Mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes vinaigrette & fresh basil from my garden,) then move on to fresh haricot verte from the E.C. farmers' market, segue into never-frozen wild sockeye salmon basted with herbs and lemon in extra virgin olive oil, broiled in a remoulade of fresh dill, sour cream, fresh-cut chives from my garden and an orgasmic Chenin Blanc.

We might end the evening with a Grand Marnier soufflé with fresh blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and a few thinly sliced strawberries soaked all day in Cointreau & a nice creme anglaise -- or homemade lemon sorbet under berries if we're feeling healthy.

Of course, if You were that One Oh-So-Special Woman in my life...
mightn't we proceed directly to other, even sweeter desserts?

OK, I confess: I am bit of a bigot -- in matters intellectual:
I believe Barack Obama's carefully considered content, correct
grammar and complete sentences are not an elitist affectation
but an essential quality in any leader I would chose to follow.

And no matter how conventionally attractive a woman may be,
my lust will languish if she lacks innate curiosity, an open mind,
a playful, irreverent sense of humor and open, spontaneous enthusiasm in her words, deeds, and readily shared feelings.

I am strongly attracted to a child-like sense of wonder
in all the marvels and magic everywhere around us:
the beauty of the natural world we visit together
and the created pleasures of books and music,
food and drink, dancing and romancing,
theatre and film, friendship and fun.

Companionship, but here on Earth, being and doing.

Not how old in years, but cheers, fears, tears.
