I am creative, caring, and vegan.

My Self-Summary

I was born and raised in California. I love it there and have so many friends there, but last year I decided to move to Portland and go back to school. I have a degree in film from UC Santa Cruz, and am now going to PCC for an AAS in Graphic Design with the hope of getting an enjoyable and somewhat lucrative career in design. Money is not my main goal. I want to work doing something I love, and make a modest living doing it.

I don't own a car. I ride my bike, walk and take the bus everywhere. It's good for my budget and good for the Earth.

What I’m doing with my life

I've been trying not to use the word "like" in my daily speech. I'm also going to school for graphic design. I love it so much. I can't wait to finish and get a job creating things.

I would also like to learn Japanese. Hopefully, after I get my degree I can continue studying the language.

I’m really good at

Grammar, film trivia and analysis, design (maybe?) and photography are some of the things that I can do well. I also am pretty good at and love to play board/word games. These include: Boggle; Scrabble; Taboo; Cranium; Trivial Pursuit; The Settlers of Catan. Also, I don't get upset when I'm losing; it's just a game. But I love a challenge.

The first things people usually notice about me

Physically: my blue eyes and cheekbones?
Personality-wise: my acute sense of humor. I'm usually quiet at first when I meet new people, as I try to figure out their sense of humor. Then I'll make quite a few jokes, some high-brow, some fairly low-brow and some both.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Gateway by Frederik Pohl, Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Same Difference by Derek Kirk Kim, Hyperion by Dan Simmons.

Movies: Alien, GoodFellas, 12 Monkeys, Trainspotting, The Fountain, The Prestige, Apocalypse Now, Sleeper (not Sleepers), Dog Day Afternoon, The Conversation, The Searchers, La Haine, UHF, The 400 Blows, Brazil, Fletch.

Music: The Radio Dept., Cut Copy, LCD Soundsystem, Digitalism, Grum, Prince, Genesis, Talking Heads, M83, The Knife, Yaz, Galaxie 500, New Order, Basement Jaxx, Underworld, The Field, Aesop Rock, Hall and Oates, Pet Shop Boys, Ratatat.

TV Shows: The X-Files, The Simpsons (classic), Futurama, Arrested Development, SpongeBob SquarePants, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Twilight Zone.

Food: I'm a lover of sandwiches. I make them at home all the time. That's a dinner food too in my book. I also love Mexican food and cake.

The six things I could never do without

Lip balm: I have three containers in my room right now.

Water: I'm pretty sure this is a building block of life. I prefer it over soda, coffee and beer. Tea and fruit juice are good too.

Film: I love to watch classic films from all over the world, figure them out and see all the different ways the filmmaker can manipulate the audience.

Brevity: short is sweet.

A library card: I check out books, CDs and movies from the local library. Multnomah County has one of the best selections in the country.

My bike: It's a celeste green Bianchi named Corin.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Mexican food.
Design.
How to be a better person.

On a typical Friday night I am

Resting up from the school week, watching a classic film.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I totally wasn't even thinking when I chose my OkCupid username. It makes me seem really intense. I don't think I am.

And I have a slight crush on Gael Garcia Bernal.

You should message me if

You're not narcissistic, you won't make any jokes about my diet, and you like curling up on the couch and watching old movies.

Also, you must be honest and not a flake.
